#SATELLITE SPOTLIGHT: A stormy sun sparked stunning #aurora sightings across the northern U.S. this week. @NOAA's #JPSS caught the #AuroraBorealis Monday night, seen as the bright white band along the U.S./Canadian border. Also notice the nighttime lights from the cities below!

🌈 The #aurora was dazzling skygazers quite far south last night!

🌌 Meanwhile, up above, Swarm was measuring the fluctuations in Earth's ionosphere

A cracking Aurora tonight for fireworks night.

Shot overlooking Rollesby Broad, Norfolk, UK and still ongoing I believe, but I needed a cup of tea and a warm up :-) @chunder10 @LondonSnowWatch @TamithaSkov

RT @eljakeo30: The #aurora I've been waiting for! The strong CME hit and a G3 magnetic storm occurred.
In the field quick edit from Spooner, Wisconsin. Colors straight off camera. No color correction! Bit dimmer to the eye, But the reds were so bright right into dawn! #wiwx #northernlights

The strong Geomagnetic Storm arrived after all the nighttime satellite overpasses so we don't have good Aurora imagery from space, but many enjoyed the Northern Lights just before sunrise. This view from northern Wisconsin. Happy #December1st!

RT @NWS: On the heels of what was likely one of the largest solar radio events ever recorded yesterday, scientists at NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center have detected multiple Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) and have issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch. The G1-G2 (Minor - Moderate) storm may bring #aurora viewing (north of red line on these images) as far south as Maine, to New York, to Iowa, to Washington state tomorrow night (Saturday). We're always proud to see two of our satellites working together! 😍

🧲 Here's what we saw! 🧲

🌞 Since our fellow @ESA_EO Earth Explorer SMOS detected the Solar Radio Burst, which peaked on 14-Dec-2023 at 17:46:23, we were keeping tabs!

πŸ“Š You can see the effect on Earth's magnetosphere, as detected by Swarm Alpha, as it arrives on the 17 in this gif...

πŸ”΄ Red is a strengthening of the magnetic field, the deeper red the stronger. Those deep reds correspond with where you'd likely catch a decent sight of the #aurora

On Jan. 20, the Solar Ultraviolet Imager (#SUVI) instrument onboard the #GOESEast πŸ›°οΈ observed a #CoronalMassEjection near the center-left of the sun.

The #CME was expected to cause a moderate geomagnetic storm here on Earth yesterday and today. Let us know if you saw the #Aurora! πŸ’«

A CME was observed lifting off the Sun on 20 Jan and is expected to cause up to G2 (Moderate) geomagnetic storming on 22-23 Jan (UTC days). A watch has been issued. - NOAA Space Weather

Today, at around 5:43 am ET, the Solar Ultraviolet Imager (#SUVI) onboard @NOAA's #GOESEast πŸ›°οΈ spotted the sun emitting a strong solar flare.

@NWSSWPC says a G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm is likely to bring the #aurora to parts of the northern U.S. tonight.

Learn more: https://t.co/pKnwokvBcF

Geomagnetic activity reached G3 (Strong) storm levels at 1446 UTC on 12 Sep due to CME effects.

RT @esa_earthcare: This time last week, there was a dazzling #aurora display for many.

We actually had to adapt our orbit manouevre plan to account for the solar storm impact.

#SpaceWeather can make things a bit soupy up there for low Earth orbit satellites, as @esaoperations can attest! πŸ•ΉοΈ

But that didn't stop another #EarthCARE underflight from taking place over Canada, as the northern lights danced around us!

Stay tuned for more calibration and validation campaign action from our friends and colleagues at @environmentca & @NASAGoddard πŸ“Ί
