Category 4 Typhoon #Khanun is traveling ~100 miles offshore of Okinawa Japan. Wind shear and dry air will weaken and slow the storm as the typhoon strength low pressure "digs down" and causes upwelling of cooler waters and further weakening -essentially putting on its own brakes! https://t.co/rmrQLOkOkq

Japan's #Himawari9 satellite is continuing to monitor Typhoon #Khanun as the sun sets over the East China Sea today. With sustained winds of 115 mph, the storm is currently the equivalent of a Category 3 Atlantic hurricane.

This #GeoColor imagery from Japan's #Himawari9 satellite shows Tropical Storm #Khanun moving northward over the Korean Peninsula and #TyphoonLan in the open ocean. Lan has rapidly intensified in the last 24 hours with sustained winds of 85 mph.

Japan's #Himawari9 🛰️ watched #TyphoonLan make landfall earlier this morning (local time) in Wakayama prefecture, Japan. #Lan, which has now weakened to a tropical storm, is bringing heavy rain and damaging winds across central and western Japan as it moves northward.
