A fair warning: The Sola Fide chat is NOT Free Grace. They are fruit-inspectors, and I strongly urge you to never look to them for spiritual advice.

The Ten Commandments Are Not the Whole Law

The Ten Commandments are only part of the Law of Moses. Scripture records 613 commandments, including Sabbath laws, sacrifices, and penalties.

Galatians 5:3 (KJV)
β€œHe is a debtor to do the whole law.”

Selective obedience was never an option.

The Law Was Never Meant to Save

The law exposes guilt but offers no forgiveness.

Romans 3:23 (KJV)
β€œFor all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

This applies to Jews and Gentiles alike.

If the Law Still Applied, So Would Its Penalties

Under the Law of Moses, certain sins carried the death penalty, and forgiveness required animal sacrifices. These laws are not practiced today - not because sin disappeared, but because the covenant was fulfilled.

Why Sacrifices Were Required

Sin brings death. Forgiveness required blood.

Leviticus 17:11 (KJV)
β€œIt is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

But animal sacrifices never removed sin. They only pointed forward.

The Ten Commandments Are Not the Whole Law

Christ Fulfilled the Law

Jesus Christ fulfilled the law completely - its commands, penalties, and sacrifices.

Romans 10:4 (KJV)
β€œFor Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”

Colossians 2:14 (KJV)
β€œNailing it to his cross.”

Salvation Has Always Been by Faith

Even before Christ came, people were saved by believing God.

Romans 4:3 (KJV)
β€œAbraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.”

Grace, Not Law

Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV)
β€œFor by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works.”

From Law to Life

The Ten Commandments cannot save us. They reveal sin and point us to our need for a Saviour.

John 14:6 (KJV)
β€œI am the way, the truth, and the life.”

Life is not found in commandments.
Life is found in Christ alone.

One of the biggest giveaways that someone is entirely ignorant of Scripture is when they (partially) quote James 2:19 as an attempted refutation of salvation by faith alone that the Bible teaches plainly.

James 2:19: Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

There’s no verse in the Bible that says devils are trusting in Christ alone to save them; what you have here is just the intellectual acknowledgment that there is one God. Muslims acknowledge the same thing (they obviously have a false β€œgod”), but nobody thinks they are going to heaven because of that.

Got another new (old) Bible at a thrift store and the concordance has specific verses about how Judaism is abolished. Haven't seen that in a new one, unless I've just missed it, this must predate a lot of the "judeo-Christian" talk

Hebrews 7:12 (KJV)
ΒΉΒ²For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

Hebrews 7:18 (KJV)
¹⁸For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

Hebrews 10:1 (KJV)
10 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

Hebrews 12:27 (KJV)
²⁷And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

WHO are you trusting to get you to heaven?

Either you’re trusting entirely in Christ and His finished work, or you’re sadly headed for hell.
