It’s clear now that the massive spike of flights of IL-76MD military transport aircraft to Engels-2 in late may was to build a stockpile of missiles at the airbase in order to rapidly equip Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 strategic bombers with readily available missiles. This is done to decrease the interval between attacks, helping to mitigate the effects Ukraine’s operation Spiderweb had on Russias strategic bomber capabilities.

The 2 Tu-95s from Ukrainka will probably redeploy to Olenya airbase in Murmansk Oblast at some point, before conducting the next missile attack on Ukraine.
