She reached the age of 120 while smoking about 30 cigarettes a day for more than a century.

Batuli Lamichhane, born in 1903 in Nepal, gained worldwide attention for her remarkable longevity and quick wit.

When doctors urged her to stop, she replied with characteristic humor: โ€œDoctors who advised me to quit smoking and drinking had already died, while I am still alive.โ€

Her life demonstrated striking resilience. She survived the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, declined offers to move, and continued handling her own daily chores well past the age of 110. She attributed her long life to remaining active, free of stress, and content, arguing that happiness mattered more than strict rules.

Batuli died in February 2024 at 120, leaving a story that captivated millions around the world.

Experts note that her case was highly unusual. Smoking is strongly associated with serious health risks, and her extreme longevity stands as an exception rather than evidence that the habit is safe.
