Erin Pizzey, who founded first women’s shelter in London over a half century ago, discovered much of this to be the case pretty early on. At first, she assumed most domestic violence was perpetuated by men towards women but soon heard many of the female victims admit they gave as much as they received and often were the main perpetrator attacking their men usually by ambushing them and often without any provocation.
When Pizzey went public with what she discovered, she was immediately denounced and repudiated by every feminist group even eventually having the very shelter she started removed from her.
