Creation ex nihilo insinuates that God, up to a certain time (so to speak, for God is not conceived as in time) Will-in-power, became Will-in-act, that is to say, causa. But if God be conceived as perfect, this theory is illogic since by it the perfect becomes something which it was not, which is manifestly absurd (1), for the perfect is that which contains all and to which nothing can be added.
There is one great objection to this argument, namely: that which is considered as out of time can in no manner be said to be anterior to creation, for anteriority supposes time.
(1) Even if becoming a Cause be a degradation, the theory cannot be held; for that which is perfect cannot become more perfect nor imperfect.
