Unpopular Opinion:
Sitting with the painful and uncomfortable emotions you feel when you realize you have done something to harm another is actually good and right and you shouldn't try to push through them too quickly.
Jung revolutionized psychology by introducing the idea of the shadow self to the Western world. Sitting in those negative emotions as you currently feel them is doing active shadow work. Sitting with shame and guilt is a good thing, it teaches you not only to listen to yourself, but to better connect to the other's soul who you have harmed. Through that, you both learn something about yourself, each other, and the relationship between the two, and you can form and build yourself back up better.
