The sexual exploitation of children

Last week I attended a multi-disciplinary meeting assembled to listen to Tim Ballard speak of his experiences fighting human trafficking and child exploitation. There’s a movie coming out about this called Sound of Freedom. In the meeting we discussed how we can help.

How does one raise awareness of this horrific billion-dollar industry that currently thrives on the sexual exploitation and abuse of an estimated 12 million children? The matter is so dark it keeps all but the most intrepid freedom-fighters at a safe distance.

It is inevitable that in certain professions like medicine one is going to see some unspeakable things.

Since the meeting, I have been haunted (again) by an experience I had as a young doctor 25 years ago. Whilst I chose to work in the field of obstetrics because childbirth should be such a joyful and transformative experience that I wanted to help facilitate this, nothing prepared me for what I saw in a gynaecology clinic in a busy South African hospital all those years ago.

The clinic was nearly over for the day, with one patient yet to be seen. I waited a few minutes, and when no one entered the clinic cubicle, I went and asked at the reception. A nurse I had not met before drew back the curtain of an adjacent dimly lit cubicle. “This is your patient,” she said. She gestured to a cot.

I could make out the little bundle in it, and I laughed at her obvious mistake. “This is the Gynaecology Clinic,” I said, “Paediatrics is the floor above.”

The nurse looked grim. “No, Doc, this is your patient.” She drew the cot out from behind the curtain and into the light. An 18-month-old infant lay absolutely still under a blanket, her little face above the covers unnaturally expressionless. My body and soul quietly screamed as the nurse discretely lifted the blanket.

· This view dramatically impacts the approach to cancer management and prevention as Dr Seyfried suggests the use of metabolic therapies which include calorific restriction, fasting and ketogenic diets.

· Dr Paul Marik is a pulmonary and critical care specialist and chair and chief scientific officer of the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC).

· He recently authored a review discussing the use of repurposed drugs such as ivermectin to improve cancer patient outcomes when used in addition to standard treatments. He cites Dr Seyfried’s work extensively.

But you look at the Joe Rogans and the Russell Brands of the world, millions upon millions of people listening to these guys. They're not journalists, but look at the impacts they're having. They got all the top doctors. Robert F Kennedy Jr is speaking with them. I mean, the impacts that they are having is greater than the mainstream media right now."

"At the end of every interview that I do, I will always ask, 'So what is the solution going forward?' In a measured way, talk about how dire things are in terms of if the WHO gets their way with the pandemic treaty and the vaccine passports, the ability to call pandemics, even at the perceived threat of a pandemic, to be able to call climate change lockdowns, I mean, these are dire things. So they need to be spoken about and given in a way that you don't alarm people, but at the same time, give them hope by telling people and asking the interviewees, 'What is the way forward and how do we stop this?' How do we change things so that we are actually working for the, I hate using it, but 'the greater good?' Right? Because this is why we're all here. We've all sacrificed everything we have to do this. It's become an obsession. We've been conscripted into a silent war, and there is no going back for me."

"There was a Stanford Prison Experiment that was supposed to last for two weeks, and they actually had to stop it because of the psychological harms it was causing to the participants. They were testing out whether there was something about guards that made them sort of seek out being prison guards and sort of preconditioned their behaviour to be sort of brutal or not. And so, anyway, they got these young college age males do this two week experiment and had half of them randomly assigned to be guards and the other half to be prisoners."

"They found there that de-humanization, de-individualization, and accepting having it socially acceptable to have dominance roles—just following orders or trying to keep order—these were among the factors that allowed the harms that they were seeing in that prison experiment. And you also have to think of Abu Ghraib prison in 2003/2004, where military guard were actually sort of abusing the prisoners there."

"So, again, such things can happen, even when they're not intended to. Control measures—again, socially accepted dominant roles or control measures that are meant for good, but that end up segregating, stigmatising, shaming, isolating or disadvantaged one particular group of people—that is a pure setup for abuse."
