Will I be able to make the switch to Nuke NC?

Disclaimer: I'm not advocating for piracy, I'm trying to avoid it by doing things in a legit way. What I have done isn't right, however I'm trying to correct what I have.

I'm in a sticky situation, as I'd installed a version of Nuke after sailing the seven seas, however, I found how seriously The Foundry takes this sort of stuff, so I deleted it. I've learnt that Nuke NC, and that it's free, so I want to use it instead of using a cracked version of Nuke, and risk being fined. Incase it matters, I'm an individual in the UK, and I'm not a part of any sort of studio. What would be the best way to go about this?

What do you wish the previous department would do so your work is better/easier/faster?

Over the years I’ve had the opportunity of working in a variety of departments, with only lighting and comp left at a production level. Every department always laments something the previous department pushed through because they were pressed for time, manpower or it was compounded from the client.

What are some things you wished the upstream department from yours would do, that would help even just a tiny bit?

For me, I just wish that people wouldn’t stand in front of the witness cams while they are rolling…

Canadian Mid-Level VFX Compositor. Unemployed for 2 Years in Canada. Realistic outlook for 2026 or time to pivot?

I’m fully aware the industry isn’t going back to the pre-COVID boom days, so I’m not looking for hopium. I’m looking for reality.

A few quick questions for anyone who’s currently working.

You will need about 24GB of VRAM (or I guess you could offload to CPU or a helluva lot of RAM if you're stacked, but expect 30s/frame at least) *Optimizations are coming so don’t get discouraged*

* **Project Management**: Drag in a single video or a whole folder. Source videos get copied into the /Projects folder for safekeeping
* **High Quabity Ingestion**: Your videos get per frame extracted to EXR 16 then compressed to EXR DWAB for optimal size:quality

Left VFX after working in a top studio — thinking about moving to Product Design, but feeling confused

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my situation and get some honest advice.
After completing my 12th, I joined an Animation/VFX institute. After finishing the course, I was fortunate to get a job in one of India’s top VFX studios, working in the FX department using Houdini. My salary was under ₹30k, which I understand is quite normal for the industry in the beginning.
But after spending some time there, I started feeling uncertain about the long-term future of the VFX industry in India — mainly because of things like:
relatively low salary growth
unstable projects
and limited long-term financial security compared to some other industries
Because of this, I started exploring UI/UX and Product Design as a possible career path. From what I see, it seems to have:
better salary potential
strong demand in tech companies
better work-life balance in many cases
However, now I’m hearing different opinions. Some people say product design is a great career, while others say the field is becoming oversaturated and very competitive. I also hear that many companies prefer candidates with a B.Des or formal design degree, which I don’t have.
Sometimes this makes me regret my earlier choices and wonder if I made a mistake after 12th. It also makes me worry whether switching careers now will actually work out.
So I wanted to ask people who are already working in product design or the tech industry:
Is it possible to build a strong product design career without a formal design degree?
Is the field really becoming overcrowded, or is that just a perception?
For someone coming from a VFX/creative background, is switching to product design realistic?
I’m still young and trying to make thoughtful decisions about my future, so I’d really appreciate honest perspectives from people who have experience in these industries.

Seeking VFX Artist for Short Film

I am currently in post production on a short film I shot several months ago, which takes place at a drive-in theater in the 1960s. However, in a few scenes there are some objects that are not period accurate, so I am looking for a VFX artist who can digitally removed them to maintain accuracy.

hyperspace jump - Customization

Finally executed an idea I’ve had for a while: exploring procedural video generation through code.

This is my first demo—a sci-fi inspired hyperspace jump. I wanted to recreate that cinematic "Warp Drive" feeling. The transition leads to a customizable text/image layer.

Technical Specs:

Resolution: Up to 4K (Demo is 2K: 2560x1440)
Framerate: 60fps (Smooth as butter!)
Render Time: 4 mins for a 5s clip.
Customization: The color palette (B&W, Blue, Multicolored, etc.) and jump duration are all tweakable via code.

I added a stylized sound effect to enhance the immersion. Since this sub doesn't allow direct video uploads, here is the link: hyperspace jump.

Study VFX in New Zealand. Is it really worth it? Is it really a career for me(According to what I want to do)?

I am in my final year of university, and I am considering pursuing a master's degree in VFX (starting with a Graduate Diploma), the reason being that I've always been interested in creative visual works and curious about how visual effects on movies are made(the entertainment world in general). But after researching on Reddit about how this world is, I have some doubts. Could it be a really good decision to study in NZ? What could I wait for studying and working there? The challenges? The years of studying will surely be tough, but is there a little possibility of work-life balance in this field? Or am I being too naive? Because, personally, I want to explore other creative fields (illustration and writing) on my own.

I do not know, maybe I am still too young to see the reality of this industry and what it implies to be part of it.



I'd like to hear your suggestions and experience. I am all ears. Thank you.



My other option is VR, although the problem is learning to code, but what can I say, life is not fair.
