πŸ—£ Good morning! Today is the second day of the Valdai Club's Youth Conference "Valdai Club: World in 2040".

πŸ“† Programme for March 4, Monday

12:00 – 13:30 β€” Workshop "Mosaic Unity or Melting Pot: Is Dialogue on Values Possible at the Crossroads of Different Cultures?" (Sirius Science and Art Park, Conference Hall 6 "Gorchakov")

The strengthening of multipolarity in international relations ensures equality in the status of states, whose policy is largely determined by cultural and civilisational factors. Complexity of the international relations’ dynamics is mainly due to the differentiation of the various states’ value-cultural picture of the world. The increase in the level of tension in world politics due to non-acceptance of the Western universalist value model is, among other things, a manifestation of the conflict at the level of ideas. The session will be devoted to the specific features of the influence of the value-civilisational factor on the dynamics of international relations.

16:00 – 17:30 β€” Workshop "Technological Progress as a Challenge and an Opportunity for Civilisation" (Sirius Science and Art Park, Conference Hall 6 "Gorchakov")

In the modern world, science and technology have become a key driver of economic development. Each state strives to develop innovative potential in order to improve the quality of life of its population, increase productivity through the automation of processes, and build economic capacity to strengthen its position in the world. However, modern technologies also pose a threat in terms of potential risks of data breaches, weakening of state sovereignty in certain digital spheres, and the prospect of replacing humans in critical sectors. During the session, participants will discuss the opportunities and challenges of technological progress in the international context.

πŸ—£ Good morning! Today is the third day of the Valdai Club's Youth Conference "Valdai Club: World in 2040".

πŸ“† Programme for March 5, Tuesday

11:30 – 11:35 β€” Opening of the conference (live: EnglishRussian)
(Sirius Science and Art Park, Conference Hall "Lobachevsky" ("Dostoevsky"))

11:35 – 13:00 β€” Session 1. The Future of World Politics in 2040 (live: EnglishRussian)
(Sirius Science and Art Park, Conference Hall "Lobachevsky" ("Dostoevsky"))

At present, multipolarity in world politics is on the rise. The current configuration of the system of international relations has qualitatively new characteristics: the role of the state and international institutions is changing, and the balance of power in the world is transforming. This dynamics is stimulated by the growing number of new challenges and threats, accelerating scientific and technological progress and changes in the new generations’ value picture of the world. The session participants will make a forecast of the main dimensions of world politics in 2040, shaped by technological, economic and value factors.

13:30 – 15:00 β€” Session 2. Dialogue of Cultures in a Polycentric World (live: EnglishRussian)
(Sirius Science and Art Park, Conference Hall "Lobachevsky" ("Dostoevsky"))

The specific features of each country's policy are largely shaped by cultural and civilisational factors. Today's young generation is contributing to the transformation of the value and ideological foundations of states' strategies. The changing value picture of the world is gradually becoming an important factor in reconfiguring the landscape of world politics. In this session, the prospects for the development of a polycentric world in the context of cultural-civilisational and value-based factors will be discussed.

15:30 – 17:00 β€” Session 3. Technological Development as a Challenge and an Opportunity (live: EnglishRussian)
(Sirius Science and Art Park, Conference Hall "Lobachevsky" ("Dostoevsky"))

In today's world, there is a trend towards accelerated development of science and technology, which is becoming a key driver of the economy. Advanced technologies, on the one hand, qualitatively change the way of life; on the other hand, stimulate inequality due to differentiated access to innovative developments. Amid the growth in international tensions, there is a trend towards the formation of separate scientific and technological blocs. The aim of the session is to identify the key trends in technological development as an important factor in the system of international relations and the world economy.

17:30 – 19:30 β€” Open discussion "Valdai-2040: Looking Into the Future" (live: English, Russian)
(Sirius Science and Art Park, Terminal "F", "Atom" Hall)

The discussion is devoted to key megatrends in the field of world politics, world economy and scientific and technological development, value-civilisational parameters of international relations. The aim of the session is to forecast how these trends will develop and what the system of international relations and the world economy will look like in 2040.

πŸ—£ Good morning! Today, November 4th, at 9:25 Moscow time (GMT+3), the opening of the 21st Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club β€œLasting Peace on What Basis? Common Security and Equal Opportunities for Development in the 21st Century” will take place in Sochi.

πŸ“† Programme for November 4, Monday

09:25 – 09:30 β€” Opening of the 21st Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club (LIVE: RussianEnglish)

09:30 – 11:00 β€” The World From the Bottom Up or The Masterpieces of Eurasian Architecture. Presentation of the Valdai Discussion Club’s Annual Report (LIVE: RussianEnglish)

11:30 – 13:00 β€” Session 1. Conflict or Agreement? What Will Most Likely Resolve Differences in the Post-Globalization Era? (LIVE: RussianEnglish)

Institutions and principles that were inherent in the international system during the second half of last century and the beginning of this century have been unable to fulfil their regulatory functions. Could conflict represent a painful but constructive way to achieve a new equilibrium? Or, are the costs of conflict so high in today’s interconnected world that agreement is the only path to an acceptable outcome? How can we achieve these agreements?

14:00 – 15:30 β€” Session 2. Eurasian Security: New Principles, New Opportunities

Today, Eurasia is not only the focus of the most significant international developments in politics and economics, but also the platform for the emergence of a new type of interaction. While this system is still taking shape, the future Eurasian comprehensive security system has the potential to demonstrate to the world novel principles that function in changed circumstances.

16:00 – 17:30 β€” Session 3. Understanding Civilization in the 21st Century? Symphony Instead of Collision

The concept of β€œcivilization” has been known for a long time, but it has been interpreted in different, sometimes diametrically opposed, ways. Some have understood β€œcivilization” as the level of cultural and political advancement achieved in the Western world, which should serve as a model for others. This has led to conflicts, ranging from socio-cultural to geopolitical disputes. Another interpretation is that β€œcivilization” is a unique set of principles for organizing social and political existence within each cultural and historical context. This is not an easy path, but it may lay the groundwork for a qualitatively different international engagement. There are more and more signs that this approach holds promise for the future.

19:00 – 20:30 β€” Session 4. A Formula of War and an Equation of Peace. A Fair Solution to the Ukrainian Crisis Amid the General Changes

The Ukrainian conflict is the quintessence of contradictions and imbalances that have built up in international politics since the end of the Cold War. The path to peace lies through the development of new common foundations for coexistence and cooperation.

πŸ—£ Good morning! Today is the second day of the 21st Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club β€œLasting Peace on What Basis? Common Security and Equal Opportunities for Development in the 21st Century”.

πŸ“† Programme for November 5, Tuesday

09:30 – 11:00 β€” Session 5. Is There a World Majority? What Unites Countries Outside the β€œCollective West” (LIVE: RussianEnglish)

A new term, β€œworld majority”, has been actively introduced into the Russian political vocabulary. What unites this diverse community? Is it capable of proposing new principles for addressing the major challenges facing humanity? Does it require consolidation?

11:30 – 13:00 β€” Session 6. Society of Equal Opportunities. What Does This Mean in the 21st Century?

The breeding ground for any conflict, both at the national and global levels, is the perception of inequality. Without new approaches, a harmonious structure of the world is impossible. And they must combine moving away from current imbalances and creating new mechanisms for democratic global regulation.

14:00 – 15:30 β€” Session 7. Fire in the Middle East and Prospects for World Peace

The Middle East is going through one of the darkest and most dramatic periods in decades. What remains of the plans for a settlement and reorganization in the region? Is this even feasible in principle? And how does all this impact the international situation overall?

16:00 – 17:30 β€” Session 8. Transparency. Surveillance. Manipulation. The Role of Information in the Era of Global Shifts

Information technology has the potential to bring both utopian and dystopian visions to life simultaneously. Is humanity capable of preventing information from being used as a weapon of mass destruction, and instead, using the opportunities that arise for good?

19:00 – 20:30 β€” Session 9. Artificial Intelligence – A Revolution or a Fashion Trend?

The technological, social, and economic revolution brought about by AI is fundamentally transforming our lives. Or does it? How can we separate the enthusiasm for new opportunities and high expectations from a sober evaluation of the impact of this technology, both its positive and negative effects, on society and politics?

The conditions of human life are undergoing significant changes. Natural disasters, the uneven distribution of resources, and fluctuations in the climate present challenges to the development of nations and people. While everyone’s focus has long been on the issue of environmental degradation, effective solutions have yet to be found. International initiatives, which have been underway since the late 20th century, have had, at best, limited impact. We require new ideas that take into account the needs of not only advanced, but also emerging economies, and that are free from the preconceptions that have arisen in this field.

11:30 – 13:00 β€” Meeting with Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation

14:00 – 15:30 β€” Meeting with Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

16:00 – 17:30 β€” Meeting with Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office

19:00 – 20:30 β€” Special session. US Elections: What Can the World Expect From America? Discussion of the preliminary results of the US presidential election
