🗺️ The notion of “World Majority” could be used as a synonym of “international plurality”, in contrast to the Western-manufactured notion of an “international community”.

The main gain of that terminological innovation would be to offer the conditions of possibility for the emergence of a post-Western order based on respect for diversity.

This is morally desirable, and practically possible, as BRICS has already demonstrated, writes Fabiano Mielniczuk for the 21st Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club.

🪙 Global changes in the system of international relations, the main examples of which are the movement towards multipolarity and the increase in the weight of developing countries in world economy and politics, have become one of the signs of the current historical moment.

This trend is reflected, among other things, in the increased interest of countries in organisations without a dominant leader such as BRICS, which already unites 10 states representing 45% of the world's population.

It seems that a turning point has come when the association has a chance to show its significance and effectiveness in terms of solving issues that do not have only an economic but also an ideological dimension for the countries of the world majority.

Problems in mutual settlements between Russia and China can be solved by introducing the BRICS Pay system. Based on blockchain technologies, it can become an analogue of SWIFT for transactions in national currencies.

If Russia and China are able to resolve current difficulties by becoming pioneers in the field of cross-border digital mutual settlements, the development of the world economy has a chance to change its vector, the weight of developing countries will increase significantly, and strategic sovereignty will acquire real, not declared outlines, write Natalya Pomozova and Artyom Semenov.

🌏 For the Russian Federation, cooperation with partners in the SCO in multilateral and bilateral formats is one of the international priorities enshrined in the current Foreign Policy Concept of 2023.

Moreover, this not only details using the SCO's potential to develop relations on the Eurasian continent, in particular, to form a broad integration circuit - the Greater Eurasian Partnership (Clause 54 of the FPC), but also to influence the international system by "facilitating the adaptation of the world order to the realities of a multipolar world" (Clause 19 of the FPC).

The SCO understands existing difficulties and is taking steps to systematise multilateral cooperation, developing common goals and objectives, as well as strengthen the mechanisms for their achievement by the organisation’s members, writes Sergey Mikhnevich. Read his articles:

🇷🇺🇮🇩 The Nusantara Archipelago has long been known to the Russian people.

A merchant from the city of Tver, Afanasy Nikitin, mentioned a mysterious country in Southeast Asia called Shabot in his travel notes “Journey Beyond Three Seas” (1466-1472). According to historians, it could have been one of the kingdoms on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia.

Rieke Diah Pitaloka writes on a historical perspective of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia.

📆 ANNOUNCEMENT: On November 18 at 12:00 noon Moscow time, the Valdai Club will host a presentation of the Valdai Paper "Russia-Africa: Overcoming Challenges".

Today, Russia is pursuing an active policy of expanding cooperation with African countries. The first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum was held in Sochi on November 9-10. Its participants defined the tasks for the coming years and summed up the first results of the second Russia-Africa summit, which was held in St. Petersburg in 2023. One of the tasks, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, chairman of the plenary session of the forum, is moving away from “dependence on global mechanisms controlled by our Western colleagues”.

How successful is Russia's course to return to Africa?
What are the priorities of African states in cooperation with Russia?
