🌐 In contemporary international relations, the balance between conflict and harmony is continually negotiated.

The rise of global challenges traditional notions of warfare and necessitates cooperative, multilateral approaches. By integrating insights from neuroscience, world leadership capabilities, and international relations theory, it is possible to create a global community of shared values and attitudes among nation leaders.

Through these efforts, leaders can work together more effectively to address trade, economic and technology challenges, promote peace, and create a more just and harmonious international community, in pursuit of a more just and peaceful world, writes Rahakundini Bakrie Connie.

🌍 EU foreign minister Josep Borrell once defined Europe as a garden of prosperity surrounded mainly by jungle. But what are the roots of this garden?

The pain, blood, violence, murder and absolute exploitation of the peoples of the world, including Europeans; the extermination of populations, cultures and identities across continents for 500 years.

We are living at a pivotal moment in history. For the first time in almost 500 years, the Western hegemony is being challenged militarily, economically, technologically and philosophically to a degree where the West could lose its dominance with the emergence of a truly multipolar world.

This is the moment to reassess our beliefs. The objective of such reassessment is not to negate the Western contribution to the human civilisation, but to uncover the limitation of that model; to take advantage of the factual achievements together with inputs and knowledge all around the word to create a wiser system that is more inclusive for the vast majority of humanity, writes Ibrahima Diagne.

🌎🌏 The 75th anniversary NATO summit in Washington, which took place on July 9-11, 2024, in addition to the issues it typically addresses, paid significant attention to the expansion of the bloc’s activities to the Asia-Pacific (now called the Indo-Pacific in the West), as well as strengthening cooperation with its partners in East Asia.

First of all, this applies to the well-known QUAD: Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the Republic of Korea, whose leaders have become active participants in the NATO summit for the third time.

As we know, the decisions of this meeting, reflected in the β€œDeclaration of the Washington Summit” adopted on July 10, 2024, are imbued with the spirit of increasing confrontation and deepen the dividing lines between this military alliance and those states that reject the hegemony of the West in the world.

The reaction of Moscow, Pyongyang and Beijing, voiced essentially in unison by states which are organisationally independent and despite the lack of any special coordination on their part, is not only not accidental, it is quite natural: it reflects a common or very similar vision of strategic threats and challenges to their own national security both in the East Asian region and in the world as a whole, Alexander Vorontsov writes.

πŸ“† ANNOUNCEMENT: On October 10 at 12:00 Moscow Time (GMT+3), the Valdai Club will host a presentation of the report β€œThe World Majority and Its Interests”.

One of the most significant phenomena in modern international life was the formation in 2022 of a large group of states, known in Russian foreign policy rhetoric as β€œthe world majority”. These countries refused to participate in anti-Russian restrictive measures and, on the contrary, maintained, and even expanded trade and investment relations with Moscow.

The group is heterogeneous and includes states of different sizes, which are located on all continents (except Australia) and are not members of the same political associations.

Nevertheless, the report authors consider the behaviour of the world majority in relation to the current conflict in Europe not an accidental or private phenomenon, but a significant factor in the development of the historical process. The emergence of this group is not associated exclusively with Russia β€” it is a product of evolution of the system of international relations. However, it was the confrontation around Ukraine that became the catalyst for its formation.

❓Is a unified policy possible towards the unconsolidated group of countries of the world majority?
❓Can the β€œworld majority” become a universal concept and enter into wide international usage?
❓What qualities are characteristic of the participants? And how can their role on the world stage change?

The authors of the report and the discussion participants will try to answer these and other questions.
