Important: Security Incident Regarding the UCO Token on Ethereum

We would like to inform you of a security incident affecting one of the key accounts associated with Archethic. A private key, initially used for the creation of the Ethereum contract of the UCO token, was mistakenly exposed publicly. This key is also a signatory on the multisig wallets of the initial UCO pools.

The key was exposed on the morning of April 23rd on GitHub, the open-source platform containing Archethic's source code, and was removed a few minutes later. We have quickly taken measures to limit the impact of this error.

In the early evening, an individual contacted us to alert us about this leak. This person used the private key to pause the UCO token on Ethereum before the completion of corrective actions.

What does this mean?

Limited impact: The individual with access to this key can only pause the UCO token on Ethereum (BSC, Polygon, and Archethic are not affected), which temporarily suspends transfers on Ethereum. It is important to emphasize that your funds are not at risk; it is not possible for this person to transfer or steal funds. Regarding the multisig wallets, each wallet requires a minimum of 3 signatures so the individual alone cannot use these funds.

Measures in progress: We have immediately taken measures to minimize the impact. This account has been removed from the multisig wallets of the initial UCO pools, so it no longer has any access to these wallets, and no unwanted transaction has or will be validated.

Immediate impacts:

Transfer blocking: Due to the pausing of the contract, no further transfers of UCO tokens can be carried out on the Ethereum blockchain.
Liquidity Freeze on Ethereum DEXs and blocking withdrawals from CEXs to Ethereum.

We are actively working to resolve this situation as quickly as possible.

The security of your assets is our top priority, and we are committed to maintaining transparency throughout this process.

✅ The problem has been solved! The contract is now active again. The UCO ERC20 has awakened and you can now make transactions on Ethereum as per usual.

Thank you for your understanding and calm, which helped us handle the situation with maximum focus.

💬 We were able to negotiate calmly with the person who exploited the flaw. A Smart Contract allowed us to regain pausing permission. Given the positive reactions of the exploiter towards our transparency with the community, and with the aim of continually improving and learning from our mistakes, we decided to award him a reward originally planned in the bug bounty.

In light of the recent events that have impacted the final stretch of the release of the DeFi products aeSwap and aeBridge, we have decided to postpone the launch originally scheduled for today. We would have preferred to hold to the end of April for the soft launch, but the sudden surge of hackers targeting our project forces us to adopt an extremely cautious attitude, especially since they intervened just before the market release of Archethic products whose mission is to mobilize and transfer your funds. As you know, we are currently in a soft launch phase, during which we are improving our ecosystem to provide a pleasant user experience.

We have heard your feedback regarding the high bridge fees. Therefore, we are pleased to inform you that we are removing the Safety Module fee, which was 0.5% of the total bridged amount. This reduction brings the total bridge fees down to 0.3%, aligning with the market average, instead of the previous 0.8%. 💸

The Safety Module, an essential security aspect of the bridge, will remain in place for now. However, we will keep you updated on any developments regarding this matter, which is currently under discussion.

For those who have completed their bridge since yesterday and paid the "Safety Module" fee, we will refund the deducted token amount to your Archethic wallet in the coming days/weeks. We will make an announcement once this has been completed. ✅
