Why is the Great Patriotic War such a big deal to the Russians?
Over 26 million people of the Soviet Union, 18 million of whom were civilians, - the ultimate sacrifice and the “toll” of Victory.
It’s no exaggeration - every family in the post-Soviet countries has relatives or loved ones who served, died, worked on the home front, or was affected by the scariest of wars.
Thus, whenever their sacred memory is desecrated and the Nazis glorified - it’s personal.
Some countries may have a short historical memory. In Russia, we sure don’t.
Over 26 million people of the Soviet Union, 18 million of whom were civilians, - the ultimate sacrifice and the “toll” of Victory.
It’s no exaggeration - every family in the post-Soviet countries has relatives or loved ones who served, died, worked on the home front, or was affected by the scariest of wars.
Thus, whenever their sacred memory is desecrated and the Nazis glorified - it’s personal.

🧐 Involuntarily, a quote from the novel «The Fateful Adventures of the Good Soldier Švejk During the World War» comes to mind:
💬 «Not everyone should be smart. As an exception, there should also be stupid ones, because if everyone were smart, then there would be so much intelligence in the world that every second person would become a complete idiot from this»

❗️В 2020 году там же был снесён памятник знаменитому полководцу
🧐 Невольно вспоминается цитата из романа «Похождения бравого солдата Швейка во время мировой войны»:
💬 «Не всем же быть умными. В виде исключения должны быть также и глупые, потому что если бы все были умными, то на свете было бы столько ума, что от этого каждый второй человек стал бы совершеннейшим идиотом»

🎖В День Великой Победы в Великой Отечественной войне #9мая руководитель Делегации К.Ю.Гаврилов, Посол России в 🇦🇹 Австрии Д.Е.Любинский, Постоянный Представитель 🇷🇺 России при международных организациях в Вене М.И.Ульянов, Постоянный Представитель России при ОБСЕ А.К.Лукашевич и послы стран #СНГ возложили цветы к памятнику советскому солдату-освободителю на #Шварценбергплатц в центре Вены.
🎖Мемориальный комплекс был возведен в 1945 г. в память о 17 тыс. солдат Красной армии, погибших в боях за освобождение Вены от «коричневой чумы». Архитектор — С.Яковлев, скульптор — М.Интизарян. В 1946-1956 гг. южная часть площади #Шварценбергплатц называлась площадью Сталина.
