Regarding the topic of macro evolution being discussed in chat: It is no different than modern cosmology. There is room in Orthodoxy to believe such things without being a heretic, even if its nonsense. Fr. Seraphim Rose comments on how the fact that geocentrism vs heliocentrism is even debated as if it is dogmatic is a strictly western idea. It is similar with evolution.

I personally think it is absurd to be Orthodox and believe it was part of God's divine plan to have humans evolve from monkey fish-frogs over the course of billions of years. But I am allowed to hold that view just as much as an evolutionist can believe creationism is absurd.
