Could One Physics Theory Unlock the Mysteries of the Brain?
The ability of the phenomenon of criticality to explain the sudden emergence of new properties in complex systems has fascinated scientists in recent decades. When systems are balanced at their “critical point,” small changes in individual units can trigger…

But let me suppose a manufacturing of members of society that is conducted at more fundamental layer.
Each member of society required to have narrow competencies. Suppose that human with broad mindset and interests is not required anymore in modern society.
For example a programmer does not need to be skillful in biology or sociology. Often they are not required to be skillful even in other fields of computer science. Moreover they can not to be, because of limitations of their cognitive capabilities.
Those who work in front of screen do not need to develop their musculoskeletal system, because they are connected to the digital input output interfaces of internet most of the time.
On the other side, those who sell capabilities of their musculoskeletal system are not required to have such knowledge, education and cognitive capabilities that are required for solving poorly formalized problems and tasks.
Artists and those who is experimenting are not valued. Creativity is valid only in narrow purposes.
There is division of labor in multicellular organism. Cell of each type is equipped to perform special narrow functions. Neural cell is adapted to transmit signals. Muscle cells can not perform the same functionality but are optimized for motion. Structure of each cell is optimized to fulfill its contribution to work of the entire organism efficiently. They are highly interdependent and can not act separately in any different environment.
Unicellulars, that in terms of diversity of behaviour are more adaptive and complex than cells of multicellular organism, can be part of the organism as well but in a fundamentally different sense.
