US angers China with Taiwan mission
A US warship’s passage through the Taiwan Strait is a “staged drama,” Beijing said

"The US Navy sent the USS Port Royal, a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser of the 7th Fleet, to pass through the body of water separating Taiwan from mainland China. The ship remained in international waters while navigating the corridor on Tuesday in a mission meant to demonstrate American “commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific,” according to a statement."

"The United States frequently stages such dramas and provokes trouble, sending wrong signals to ‘Taiwan independence’ forces, and deliberately intensifying tensions across the Taiwan Strait,” a Chinese military official said, commenting on the mission.

The Chinese military was monitoring the progress of the American warship and ready to counteract any threats and provocations, Colonel Shi Yi, the spokesman for the Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army, said.

Washington has no formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan but has supported its government since it was captured by nationalist forces during the Chinese civil war. The US has ramped up informal and semi-formal backing of Taipei over the past several years with arms supplies, trade deals and other actions. US officials say they want to deter Beijing from attempting to seize the island by force, an intent that Beijing denies having."

Ukraine’s ‘senseless PR action’ at Snake Island led to heavy losses – Russia

Kiev has so far lost 30 drones, 10 helicopters, four jets, three ships, and upwards of 50 troops in failed attempts to take Snake Island, the Russian Ministry of Defence has revealed. Urged on by British advisers, President Volodymyr Zelensky personally ordered the attack and wanted to see a victory by May 9, media reported citing security sources.

“This adventure has turned out to be a disaster for Ukraine,” said Major General Igor Konashenkov, the spokesman for the Russian military, adding that the “thoughtless PR action of the Kiev regime to take Snake Island by Victory Day” resulted in the “meaningless deaths” of more than 50 elite Ukrainian troops, as well as pilots and crew of the destroyed aircraft and vessels.

Konashenkov called the attempt to take the island a public-relations stunt, “mindless from the military standpoint.”

The strategically located island was taken by the Russian Navy in the first week of military operation. The Ukrainian government and media initially claimed that 13 brave defenders died after heroic resistance, only for the 82 border guards who had surrendered without a fight to turn up alive within days.

❗️Ukraine blocks Russian gas flow to Europe
European gas prices have spiked after transit via a key entry point was stopped

"Ukraine suspended the flow of Russian natural gas to Europe on Wednesday, while blaming Moscow for the disruption. Russian gas had so far been flowing uninterrupted through pipelines across Ukraine despite the military activities.

Russian energy giant Gazprom said it sees no reason for the disruption, adding that it can’t reroute supplies to another entry point, Sudzha, because the reconfiguration would be “technically impossible.”

"Gazprom’s spokesman Sergey Kupriyanov said on Wednesday that Ukraine has left only one entry point for the transit of Russian gas to Europe, which significantly reduces the reliability of supplies."

"The company pointed to a 34% decrease in Russian gas supplies to Europe due to Kiev's actions.

Shipments through Ukraine to Slovakia’s Velke Kapusany, the main transit route to Europe, are also expected to decline to the lowest level since April 30, based on grid data.

European natural gas prices jumped on the news by more than 6.4% on Wednesday, according to Refinitiv data. The prices later eased on bearish factors, including warmer weather and LNG imports."

MOSCOW, May 11. /TASS/. Head of the Russian Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces Igor Kirillov on Wednesday said counterfeit money bills that circulated in the Lugansk People Republic in 2020 were infected with a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis.

"Thus, materials were studied that testify to the deliberate use in 2020 of a pathogen of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis to infect the population of the Slavyanoserbsky District of the LPR," he said. The official said the infected bills were disseminated among minors in the Stepovoye settlement.

"The results of bacteriological studies confirmed the resistance of isolated bacteria to first-line and second-line anti-tuberculosis drugs, meaning the disease caused by them is much more difficult to treat, and the cost of treatment is much higher," Kirillov said.☣️

The Threat Of Polish Involvement In Ukraine
The war against Russia in Ukraine has evolved, but not in the way Western observers predicted.

Few analysts in the West knew or cared that Russian commanders were instructed to avoid collateral damage to the civilian population and infrastructure. Initially, concerns about collateral damage clearly constrained the Russian army’s action, but in time, Russian operations encircled key urban areas in Eastern Ukraine where Ukrainian forces sought to establish defensive strongholds stocked with ammunition, food, and water. Russian operational intent changed, focusing on systematically reducing the encircled Ukrainian forces and not on capturing metropolitan areas.

Russia’s enormous advantage in strike forces—rocket artillery, tactical ballistic missiles, conventional artillery, and aircraft—combined with significant Ukrainian deficiencies in mobility, air defense, and strike assets, made the Ukrainian decision to defend inside urban areas inevitable. But Ukrainian forces’ inability to effectively maneuver and coordinate counteroffensives on the operational level ceded the strategic initiative to Russian forces early. It also simplified the conduct of Russian “attrition by strike operations.” Key Ukrainian airfields, bridge sites, railway junctions and transportation assets were neutralized or destroyed, isolating forward deployed Ukrainian forces from resupply or reinforcement.

Ten weeks after the conflict began, it is instructive to re-examine the strategic picture. The war against Russia in Ukraine has evolved, but not in the way Western observers predicted. Ukrainian forces look shattered and exhausted. The supplies reaching Ukrainian troops fighting in Eastern Ukraine are a fraction of what is needed. In most cases, replacements and new weapons are destroyed long before they reach the front.

Confronted with the unambiguous failure of U.S. assistance and the influx of new weapons to rescue Ukrainian forces from certain destruction, the Biden administration is desperate to reverse the situation and save face. Poland seems to offer a way out. More important, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have both expressed the desire to erase the borders between Poland and Ukraine.

Unconfirmed reports from Warsaw indicate that after Washington rejected the proposals for a no-fly zone over Ukraine, along with the transfer of Polish MIG-29 aircrafts to Ukrainian pilots, the Polish general staff was quietly instructed to formulate plans for intervention in the Ukrainian conflict by seizing the western part of Ukraine. Naturally, military action of this scale would require Kiev’s approval, but given Washington’s de facto control of the Zelensky government, approval for Polish military intervention should not be a problem.

Presumably, the Biden administration may hope that a collision involving Russians and Poles in any form—including air and missile strikes against Polish forces on the Ukrainian side of the border—would potentially call for the NATO council to meet and address Article V of the NATO treaty. Whether a Polish military intervention into Ukraine justifies the commitment of NATO members to war with Russia is unclear. Action still would be left up to the judgement of each NATO member state.

About the most that any analyst can say with confidence at this point is that Polish military intervention would confront NATO members with the specter of war with Russia, the very development most NATO members oppose.

MOSCOW, May 11. /TASS/. Nationalists have blocked more than 90,000 people in the residential areas and on the premises of over ten enterprises in the cities of Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, the chief of Russia’s National Defense Management Center, said on Wednesday.

🌐WASHINGTON, May 12. /TASS/. The United States deliberately turns the situation "upside down" when claiming that the food supply crisis is caused by Russia’s actions in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov told journalists.

"The United States is deliberately presenting the situation ‘upside down.’ The Kiev authorities are mining the port waters, preventing ships from delivering provisions and other goods to other states. At the same time, our efforts to coordinate the opening of humanitarian corridors continue to be ignored," the Russian Embassy’s Telegram channel quoted him as saying.

The Russian diplomat emphasized that "Washington stubbornly refuses to take responsibility for its foreign economic faults." "Statements that anti-Russian restrictions allegedly do not harm our food and fertilizer supplies do not stand up to criticism. Apparently, attempts to isolate the Russian financial system and undermine the capabilities of the transport sector do not count," he asserted.

The Russian envoy noted that Moscow is deeply concerned over the current situation on global food markets and "will continue to fulfill its obligations under international export contracts in terms of agricultural goods and fertilizers in good faith."

US drug overdoses break record
One death occurred every five minutes, in the third straight record-setting year

💉
"More than 107,600 Americans died from drug overdoses last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed on Wednesday. The record-setting figure, driven by fentanyl and other synthetic opioid abuse, represented a 15% increase over the previous year’s 93,655 overdose deaths."

"Last year was hardly the first to set a record regarding overdoses in the US, which have been steadily climbing for years aside from a brief dip in 2018. The figures have only grown as the easier-to-smuggle and -synthesize fentanyl has overtaken heroin in drug markets across America."
