Belarusians in Heidelberg invite you to join the celebration of our Freedom Day this Saturday. This day is a celebration of Belarusian identity and the struggle of the Belarusian people to build an independent and democratic country.

On 25 March 1918, Belarus declared its independence from the Russian Empire. Although the state would soon be occupied in the turmoil of WWI and divided between the Second Polish Republic and Soviet Russia, the declaration of independence forced the international community to recognise Belarusians as a separate nation distinct from their neighbours. This precedent led to the recognition of the rights of the Belarusian minority in interwar Poland and the establishment of the Belarusian Soviet Republic within the USSR despite the original plan to fully annex Belarus to Russia.

Joining us on this day, you will have an opportunity to hear a short lecture on the significance of Freedom Day in the historical context and its importance in Belarusian history, followed by an interactive quiz.

In addition, Belarusian musician Andruś Takindang plans to enrich the evening with his concert. Andruś is a charismatic and talented artist who performs in various styles such as contemporary folk, jazz, ska, reggae and punk.

Мы соберёмся на Friedrich-Ebert-Platz, напротив дома, где жил в свои студенческие годы Осип Мандельштам, поэт, погибший в ГУЛАГе. Вы сможете зачитать имена репрессированных на видео, которое станет частью большой трансляции Мемориала 29-го октября. Если вы знаете среди своих предков расстерлянных или репрессированных советским режимом, вы также можете прочитать их имена. Чтение возможно на любом удобном для вас языке. Wir laden ein zur Lesung der Namen der Opfer des Sowjetregimes, die im Rahmen einer weltweiten Veranstaltungsreihe der Gesellschaft Memorial stattfindet. Wir versammeln uns auf dem Friedrich-Ebert-Platz, vor dem Haus, in dem während seiner Studienzeit der Dichter Ossip Mandelstam lebte, der später im Gulag ums Leben kam. Die Lesung der Namen wird aufgezeichnet und als Teil einer großen Memorial-Live-Schalte verwendet. Wenn Sie Vorfahren haben, die vom Sowjetregime verfolgt oder unterdrückt wurden, können Sie auch deren Namen vorlesen. In welcher Sprache Sie das machen möchten ist Ihre Entscheidung. 85 years ago, on november 9th, 1938, the Nazi state initiated a campaign of pogroms against Jews accross the country. These included the systematic plundering and burning of synagogues by the SA militias with the support of the fire brigades, destruction of jewish homes and businesses, first mass deportations of jewish men to Dachau concentration camp near Munich and much more...
On the alte Synagogenplatz in the Lauerstrasse in Heidelberg, thursday November 9th at 6 PM, a commemoration including the reading of the names all deported Jews of Heidelberg, will take place. You are welcome to join at this peculiar moment, a month after the worst pogrom since the foundation if the State of Israel.

Three months before the second year of the full-scale Russian invasion to Ukraine, everyone wonders if peace is possible. And if yes, how and when. Several peace plans have been offered by the international community. We find Ukrainian "Sustainable Peace Manifesto - Never Again 2.0" as the best option. Join us in discovering, sharing and discussing it.

1⃣ First step - read, reflect and share. It is a long read. So get somewhere comfortable, prepare the 23 pages doc and take notes while reading. We will need your feedback very soon. Share it with as many people as possible:
