Celebrations dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Nicholas Roerich opened in the Russian House in New Delhi with the presentation of Prof Mita Narayan's book "Roerich's World in Poetry."At the beginning of the event, the congratulatory addresses of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of India Mr Denis Alipov and the Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation Mr Vinay Kumar were read out.
Dr Elena Remizova, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo in India, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. She noted that the book reveals to readers a new image of Roerich as a poet, despite the fact that he is mainly known to the general public as an artist and thinker. The guests of honor, among whom were INDAPRYAL President Prof Charanjeet Singh and ICCR Director Mr Kumar Tukhin, expressed confidence that the book will certainly become interesting to many readers, since it reflects important points of religion, philosophy and spirituality, to which Roerich paid great attention.
Prof Narayan noted that the book reveals the hybrid identity of Roerich, who, while maintaining ties with his national culture, turns out to be open to other languages and cultures. The book, which includes translation into Hindi and English, speaks to the reader in a language close to him, and, at the same time, in a universal language. With the support of Rossotrudnichestvo in India, the presentation of the book will also take place in the near future in Russian houses in Chennai and Kolkata.
