Why is the Great Patriotic War such a big deal to the Russians?
Over 26 million people of the Soviet Union, 18 million of whom were civilians, - the ultimate sacrifice and the “toll” of Victory.
It’s no exaggeration - every family in the post-Soviet countries has relatives or loved ones who served, died, worked on the home front, or was affected by the scariest of wars.
Thus, whenever their sacred memory is desecrated and the Nazis glorified - it’s personal.
Some countries may have a short historical memory. In Russia, we sure don’t.

9 мая 2022 года в день празднования 77-й годовщины Победы в Великой Отечественной войне в Москве впервые откроется Международная сцена «Бессмертного полка»!
На конференции координаторов Международного движения «Бессмертный полк» «Память победителей», прошедшей в Белграде в сентябре 2019 года, сопредседатель ООД «Бессмертный полк России», Народный артист СССР Василий Семёнович Лановой впервые озвучил приглашение творческим делегациям со всего мира приехать в столицу России на торжество, посвященное 75-летию Победы в Великой Отечественной войне. Но тогда масштабному празднованию помешала пандемия COVID-19. Сейчас есть возможность собраться и отпраздновать День Победы всем вместе. «Данный проект родился благодаря тому, что год от года желание выразить свою личную благодарность всем тем, кто, не щадя своих жизней, приближал Великую Победу, просыпается в сердцах все большего и большего числа людей во всем мире!», - поделилась замыслом мероприятия директор АНО «Культурно-патриотический центр «Армия и культура», председатель оргкомитета Международной Сцены Бессмертного Полка Антонина Ивановна Журавлева.
Для участия в концертной программе приглашены звезды российской эстрады и музыканты, исполнители, творческие коллективы из более чем 40 стран мира, среди которых: Сербия, Индия, Китай, Турция, Греция, Испания, Франция, Куба, Аргентина, Черногория, Марокко, Монголия, Южная Корея, Египет, Тунис, стран СНГ – Белоруссия, Казахстан, Узбекистан, Таджикистан, Киргизия, Армения, Азербайджан, Молдова, республик ЛНР и ДНР.
Эта программа станет уникальным подарком жителям и гостям столицы, а наши иностранные друзья увидят Город-герой Москву во всём её праздничном великолепии.
Концертный телемарафон пройдет в Центральном парке культуры и отдыха им. М. Горького с 16-00 до 22-00 часов и будет транслироваться национальным мультиплатформенным оператором ТРИКОЛОР с раздачей телесигнала в Интернет.

Art exhibition marks 77th anniversary of the Victory over fascism at the Russian House in Kolkata
On 10th May 2022, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata Alexey Idamkin has inaugurated the commemorative art exhibition in celebration of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. He emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory in order to avoid distorting the truth about the World War II.
The exhibition of paintings, sculptures and installations was organized by the Russian House in Kolkata. Indian artists presented their works, dedicated to the Victory over fascism.
Students of the Institute of Russian Language performed a number of poems and songs, some of which had been written during the war and became iconic. Demonstration of the song "Victory Day" concluded the cultural presentation.
The exhibition includes art works by Indian artists, 100 photographs and 50 posters of the flaming years of 1941-1945 along with 13 reproductions of the art works by the artists of Leningrad during the 900 Days of Blockade. Poems written by the Red Army soldiers and partisans at the front lines of the Great Patriotic War of 1941--1945, books and journals on the World War II are also part of the exhibition.
The exhibition will remain open for public viewing from May 10th to 18th, 3 to 6 p.m. daily, except Sundays.
