Since the time of Ancient Russia, kremlins have been a powerful defense against raids by enemy tribes. Today these are tourist sites, the most famous are in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan. In our selection, the Kremlin is less famous, but no less amazing.

🏰 Uglich Kremlin. The graceful architectural ensemble on the high bank of the Volga bears little resemblance to a fortress. Rather, it is an open-air museum: the chambers of local princes, ancient cathedrals, a high bell tower, the building of the city council and the famous temple of Tsarevich Dimitri have been preserved here.

🏰 Zaraysk Kremlin. It was built by order of Vasily III in 1528-1531. In those years, enemy troops attacked the Kremlin in Zaraysk several times, but it survived and repelled all attacks. Today it is part of the tourist complex of Zaraysk near Moscow.

🏰 Verkhotursky Kremlin. This is the youngest Kremlin in Russia: it was built in 1712. The fortress is located in the small town of Verkhoturye in the Urals. The monument of Russian fortress architecture stands on a high cliff, attracting attention with stone walls, towers and the beautiful Holy Trinity Cathedral.

🏰 Ivangorod fortress. At the end of the 15th century, a stone fort was erected on the right bank of the Narva River to protect the western border of the country. Today it has been well restored and is popular with tourists.

🏰 Fortress Oreshek. The stone fort on Nut Island was built in 1323. From 1612 to 1702 it belonged to the Swedes; now it is located on the territory of the Leningrad region. The fortress withstood many battles and was an outpost of resistance to the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War.

The pink lake Sasyk-Sivash is the largest of the saline lakes of Crimea: its area is 75.3 sq. km, and the length is 14 km. The northern part is fresh, and the southern part is salty, the dam prevents the water from mixing. And although the name Sasyk-Sivash is translated as "stinking mud", this pink lake is rightfully considered one of the main attractions of the peninsula.

Sasyk-Sivash is a place with an extraordinary landscape. The pink color of the lake is due to the Dunaliella salina algae growing here. Sasyk-Sivash acquires its brightest color in July and August. At this time, the lake becomes smaller, the concentration of salt and pigment becomes higher. At the end of summer, when the water level becomes lower, small salt "icebergs" protrude from the lake.

Lake Sasyk-Sivash is famous not only for its beauty, but also for its healing mud and pink salt: since the time of the Scythians and the ancient Greeks, this place was considered sacred.

The Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (#VDNH) is the largest exhibition and entertainment complex in the world and one of the most popular public spaces in Moscow. VDNKH is visited by 33 million people annually. The Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy received its first visitors on August 1, 1939.

On 325 hectares there are historical pavilions, arches, museums, ponds, parks, alleys, fountains, flower beds and sculptures — a total of 49 objects of cultural heritage.

At VDNH, you can see outstanding architectural masterpieces of the past, including the monument "Worker and Kolkhoz Woman", fountains "Friendship of Peoples" and "Stone Flower", pavilions "Agriculture", "Soviet Culture", "Cosmos" and others. But the innovations of VDNH are striking in scale and beauty: for example, in 2019, the largest ice rink in Europe was opened here. Exciting performances in the huge aquarium ("Moskvarium"), the secrets of space in the Museum of Cosmonautics and a detailed layout of Moscow attract the attention of Muscovites and tourists every day.
