Russian students won 5 gold medals at the 52nd International Physics Olympiad (IPhO2022).
The Olympiad was held remotely and consisted of two rounds. The organiser was Switzerland. This year the children from Russia took part individually.
The winners of the Olympiad were:
- Vadim Yerin - Moscow region, Physical Engineering Lyceum named after Kapitsa;
- Maksim Permyakov - Mordovia, Republican Lyceum for gifted children;
- Daniil Rynkevich - Moscow, Centre of educational excellence;
- Oleg Kalashnikov - Moscow region, Physical Engineering Lyceum named after Kapitsa;
- Ilya Gladyshev - Moscow, Lyceum "The Second School".
In total, schoolchildren from 75 countries were represented at the Olympiad.

Humanitarian aid was delivered by representatives of the Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria to residents of the town of Beer Ajam in Al-Quneitra province on 15 July.
The first beneficiaries were disabled combat victims, orphans and widows of Syrian army servicemen. The civilians received 500 food kits consisting of cereals, flour, canned food and tea.

Floral shawls, guitars and violins, a whirlwind of dance and the clatter of horses' hooves - the Gypsy aesthetic is remarkable. Selling horses and fortune-telling - traditional activities of the Gypsies - have already gone down in history, and today Gypsies are mostly famous as musicians, dancers and singers.
Although the Gypsies in Russia have long moved away from their traditional way of life, they keep their customs sacred. They still settle in tabor and obey the elder, the baron. The Gypsies do not speak out loud about love and they are not allowed to touch another man's woman (even in a dance). This is why it is customary to express feelings through creativity in this culture.
Gypsy romances are often heard on the Russian stage today. One cannot ignore the popularity of the Moscow Gypsy Theatre "Romen", which since 1931 remains a guide to the mysterious world of the dances and songs of this people.
The 2010 census counted 220 thousand Gypsies in Russia.

Schoolchildren from Russia have won four gold medals at the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad, which ended on 18 July in China.
The gold medals went to:
- Artem Gulyaev - Moscow, Letovo school, grade 11;
- Victor Koshlan - Moscow, school of educational excellence centre, grade 11;
- Vladimir Mikhaylenko - Saransk, Republican Lyceum, grade 11;
- Nikita Perov - Kazan, Lyceum №131, grade 10.
326 students from 83 countries participated in the Olympiad.

KAMAZ-Master driver Dmitry Sotnikov becomes four-time winner of the "Silk Way Rally"
The "Silk Way Rally" finished in Luzhniki on July 16. Participants in the international motorsport marathon included pilots from Belarus, China, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Spain, Turkmenistan, and others.
A unique achievement was set by Dmitry Sotnikov, the pilot of the KAMAZ "blue armada" team, who has already become a four-time winner of the "Silk Way Rally".
It is worth noting that this year the "Silk Way Rally" was held on the territory of Russia and was dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Peter the Great. The pilots drove through cities such as Astrakhan, Grozny, Elista, Volgograd, Lipetsk, and Moscow.

On 20 July, Rosatom began building the "El Dabaa" nuclear power plant in Egypt's Matrouh Region, which is 350 kilometers from Cairo.
The "El Dabaa" plant will be the first nuclear power plant in the country, as well as the largest project of Russian specialists in Africa. It will consist of four 1,200 MW units, each with a total capacity of 4,800 MW. The power units will contain Russian-made VVER-1200 reactor units which meet the highest international requirements for efficiency and safety.
The project is planned to be completed by 2028-2029.

Unusual coats of arms of Russian cities
There are thousands of towns, villages and regions in Russia that have their own coats of arms. As a rule, they depict what the locality is famous for. However, some of them are quite original.

1️. Camels in the Urals?
The coat of arms of Chelyabinsk also looks puzzling, as it depicts a camel that is not typical for the Urals climate. It turns out that the "ship of the desert" appeared on the coat of arms by order of Catherine the Great in 1782, since a caravan road from China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan ran through Chelyabinsk.

2️. Atomic bear in Siberia?
The coat of arms of Zheleznogorsk in the Krasnoyarsk Region depicts a dramatic battle between a bear and an atomic nucleus in a structural lattice. As the creators of the coat of arms pointed out, it is an experimental bear, which symbolises the joining of the forces of nature and human thought.

The coat of arms of the Crimean town of Saki features... a brontosaurus. They do not walk around the town, it is just that archaeologists once found a huge amount of bottom sediment from the dinosaur age in the ancient Saki Lake. A monument to the brontosaurus was erected in the park of one of Saki sanatoriums; now it is a symbol of the town.

A small ancient town Shuya in Ivanovo Region placed a difficult to identify element on its coat of arms. No, it's not a brick, as many people think, it's a bar of soap. In the description of the old version of the coat of arms from 1781 it symbolizes the soap factories of the city. Since 2004, the bar of soap has been depicted as gold.

It is quite logical to see snowflakes on the coat-of-arms of Snezhnogorsk in the Murmansk Region. But why are they admired by the seal from the ice-hole? Simply this cute animal symbolizes the town's main ship-repair enterprise Nerpa (where submarines are repaired).
