Indian photographers are among the winners of the Andrey Stenin International Press Photo Contest

Winners of the Andrey Stenin Contest have been announced and there are 3 Indian photographers among them:

- Shibashish Saha. "Evergreen smile" in the category "Portrait. A Hero of Our Time";

- Chandan Khanna with 2 works. "Ribbons of loss" in the category "Portrait. A Hero of Our Time" and "Just Numb" in the category "Series";

- Rajesh Mohan Pandey. "Cracking the Ice" in the category "My planet".

The Andrei Stenin International Photo Contest is an annual contest for young photojournalists aged between 18 and 33 years old. It is Russia’s only platform for discovering new photojournalists and for allowing them to make a name for themselves on the world photojournalism stage. In 2021 around 4500 entries from 70 countries were submitted. Since its start in 2014 the contest has been exhibiting around the world, including Moscow, Cape Town, Budapest, Madrid, New Delhi, San-Donato-Milanese, New York, Ankara, Buenos Aires and other cities.

The annual submission period starts on December, 22. The date marks the birthday of Rossiya Segodnya photojournalist Andrei Stenin, who died while on assignment and in whose honour the contest is named.

The first International Student Philosophy Olympiad to be held in Kaliningrad

Russian and foreign students studying on Bachelor's, Specialist's and Master's programmes can take part. Olympiad will be held in two stages.
Prizes of high value have been prepared for the winners and runners-up, including benefits for admission to philosophy courses at the Philosophy Faculty of the Moscow State University and Baltic Federal University.

Today we remember the reformer of the world theater, a man whose acting system has been practiced for more than 100 years, the founder of one of the leading Russian theaters - Konstantin Stanislavsky (17 January 1863 - 7 August 1938).

Since childhood, Konstantin Alekseev (he took a pseudonym only in 1885) played in home amateur performances, often visited the circus and ballet - in other words, he was introduced to the world of theatrical art.

In 1902, Stanislavsky, together with Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, founded the Moscow Art Theater, marking a new stage in the development of theatrical art in Russia. The performances of the plays “At the Bottom” and “The Seagull” at the Moscow Art Theater made the names of Maxim Gorky and Anton Chekhov popular, and Stanislavsky himself showed himself both as an experienced director and as an excellent actor.

One of the main contributions of Stanislavsky to the world of theater was the development of his acting system. The director's main goal of training was "to bring life to the stage, bypassing the routine (which kills this life) and at the same time preserving the stage conditions."

The Stanislavsky system continues to be used by theaters and theater schools. Since 2001, actors who adhere to the principles of the Stanislavsky system have been awarded the “I Believe. Konstantin Stanislavsky."

Сегодня вспоминаем реформатора мирового театра, человека, чья актёрская система практикуется уже более 100 лет, основателя одного из ведущих русских театров – Константина Станиславского.

С самого детства Константин Алексеев (псевдоним он взял только в 1885 году) играл в домашних любительских спектаклях, часто посещал цирк и балет – иными словами, был приобщён к миру театрального искусства.

В 1902 году Станиславский вместе с Владимиром Немировичем-Данченко основал Московский художественный театр, ознаменовав новый этап становления театрального искусства в России. Постановки в МХТ пьес «На дне» и «Чайка» сделали популярными имена Максима Горького и Антона Чехова, а сам Станиславский показал себя одновременно и как опытный режиссёр, и как прекрасный актёр.

Одним из основных вкладов Станиславского в мир театра стала разработка своей актёрской системы. Главной целью обучения режиссёр ставил «внести на сцену жизнь, миновав рутину (которая убивает эту жизнь) и сохранив в то же время сценические условия».

Систему Станиславского продолжают использовать театры и театральные школы. С 2001 года актёрам, которые придерживаются принципам системы Станиславского вручается Премия «Верю. Константин Станиславский».

On 5 August, lightning struck the dome of a tank containing 25,000 cubic metres of oil in Matanzas province, Cuba. As a result, a massive fire broke out. They have been unable to put out the fire for several days and the country's air force has been called in. Cuba asked for help from the international community.

The Russian Foreign Ministry and relevant services are in constant contact with Cuba to provide the necessary assistance in connection with the fire at the oil storage facility.
Russian Foreign Ministry also expressed support to Cubans, condolences to relatives and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

5 августа в кубинской провинции Матансас в купол резервуара с 25 тысячами кубометров нефти ударила молния. В результате этого произошел сильный пожар. Потушить огонь не могут уже несколько суток, к работе привлекли ВВС страны. Куба обратилась за помощью к международному сообществу.
МИД России и профильные службы находятся в постоянном контакте с Кубой для оказания необходимого содействия в связи с пожаром на нефтехранилище.
Также в МИД России выразили поддержку кубинцам, соболезнования родным и близким погибших, а также пожелали скорейшего выздоровления пострадавшим.

Today, foreign students from the project "Cultural Routs of Russia" went from Moscow to Perm. The most interesting is yet to come, but the guys did not get bored and recorded a video greeting while waiting for the plane.

The project participants will visit the cities of Cherdyn, Solikamsk, Osa, Kudymkar and Kungur. They are waiting for thematic lectures, creative master classes, excursions to historical places and modern sights, as well as meetings with peers.

Иностранные студенты из проекта «Культурные пути России» сегодня отправились из Москвы в Пермь. Самое интересное еще впереди, но ребята не скучали и в ожидании самолета записали видеопривет.

Участники проекта посетят города Чердынь, Соликамск, Оса, Кудымкар и Кунгур. Их ждут тематические лекции, творческие мастер-классы, экскурсии по историческим местам и современным достопримечательностям, а также встречи со сверстниками.

Peoples of Russia: Laks

In the mountains of the Caucasus live the people of tightrope walkers - the Laks. Previously, this skill was vital for them so as not to fall in the narrow and long passages in the mountains of Dagestan, and now Lak tightrope walkers travel all over Russia and give performances at holidays and weddings.

Starting from the 5th century AD, the Laks were captured by the Persians, Arabs and other peoples. With independence in 1922, the territory of the Laks was officially named "Lak District". The capital of Lakia is considered to be Kumukh, one of the main cultural centers of the Caucasus.

The Laks respect traditions. So, to this day they continue to celebrate the holidays of the solstices, and they consider the day of the vernal equinox to be the New Year, which is celebrated for 3 days and 3 nights. Another important holiday is the Day of the first furrow, which opens the arable season.

An important element of folk culture is food. The Laks like to cook khinkal - pieces of unleavened dough cooked in meat broth or water. And at weddings, the parties of the bride and groom traditionally exchange halva prepared according to unique family recipes.

Народы России: лакцы

В горах Кавказа живёт народ канатоходцев – лакцы. Раньше этот навык был им жизненно необходим, чтобы не упасть в узких и длинных переходах в горах Дагестана. Сейчас лакские канатоходцы разъезжают по всей России и дают представления на праздниках и свадьбах.

Начиная с V века нашей эры, лакцев захватывали персы, арабы и другие народы. С получением независимости в 1922 году территория лакцев была официально названа «Лакский округ». Столицей Лакии принято считать Кумух – один из главных культурных центров Кавказа.

Лакцы почтительно относятся к традициям. Так, они по сей день продолжают отмечать праздники солнцестояний. День весеннего равноденствия они считают Новым Годом, который празднуется 3 дня и 3 ночи. Другим важным праздником считается День первой борозды, открывающий сезон пашни.

Важный элемент народной культуры – еда. Лакцы любят готовить хинкал – куски пресного теста в мясном бульоне или воде. А на свадьбах стороны жениха и невесты традиционно обмениваются халвой, приготовленной по уникальным семейным рецептам.
