Representatives of Russia and the United States honoured the memory of participants in the Soviet-American “Zebra” project
On January 11, 2026, a traditional memorial ceremony was held in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, on the banks of the Pasquotank River, to honour the memory of Soviet and Canadian pilots who perished in early 1945 as a result of the crash of a PBN-1 NOMAD seaplane. The aircraft was being ferried for the Red Army Air Force under the Lend-Lease programme as part of deliveries of this class of aircraft (Catalina).
The event, organized by the Russian Embassy in the US with the participation of senior diplomats and staff of the military attaché’s office was attended for the first time since 2020 by representatives of the Pentagon. They were represented by the Chairman of the Joint POW/MIA Commission General Robert Foglesong and his colleagues.
At the site of the tragedy, delegations from both countries laid a wreath and red carnations in the Pasquotank River. Military honours were rendered to the fallen crew members – Soviet pilots Captains Nikolai Chikov and Vladimir Levin, Lieutenants Dmitry Medvedev and Afanasy Borodin, as well as radio operator Lieutenant Peter Nataros of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Under the secret project codenamed “Zebra”, Soviet and Allied crews underwent training between April 1944 and October 1945. In total, 184 American-made seaplanes were delivered to the Soviet–German front.
This stands as one of the clear examples of the combat alliance between the Red Army and the US Armed Forces in the fight against a common enemy – the absolute evil of Nazism. The memory of the heroes who fought shoulder to shoulder as part of the anti-Hitler coalition, and of the immense sacrifices of the Soviet people, is sacred and must never be forgotten.
No one is forgotten – nothing is forgotten.

❓ Question: For over a fortnight, anti-government demonstrations in Iran have persisted, escalating into unrest. Could you comment on the current situation in the country?
💬 Maria Zakharova: The unlawful sanctions pressure exerted by the West, to which the Islamic Republic of Iran has been subjected for many years, has hampered the country’s development and generated economic and social challenges, primarily affecting ordinary Iranians.
Hostile external forces are seeking to exploit rising public tensions in order to destabilise and undermine the Iranian state.
The notorious methods of so-called colour revolutions are being employed, whereby peaceful protests are transformed – through the actions of provocateurs trained and armed abroad – into brutal and senseless violence, including riots, the killing of law-enforcement officers and civilians, and even children.
❗️ We unequivocally condemn subversive external interference in Iran’s internal political processes.
It is particularly noteworthy that the Iranian authorities have demonstrated readiness for constructive dialogue with society to identify effective ways of mitigating the adverse socioeconomic consequences of the West’s hostile policies.
Threats emanating from Washington regarding further military strikes against the Islamic Republic are categorically unacceptable. Those who contemplate exploiting externally instigated unrest as a pretext to repeat aggression against Iran, as witnessed in June 2025, must fully realize the grave consequences such actions would entail for the Middle East and for global international security.
❗️ We also firmly reject the brazen attempts to pressure Iran’s foreign partners through the imposition of increased trade tariffs.
The evolving dynamics of Iran’s domestic political situation, together with the recent decline in artificially fuelled protests, provide grounds for cautious optimism regarding a gradual stabilization. The thousands-strong marches by Iranians in support of the country’s sovereignty testify to the failure of the sinister designs of those who resent the existence of states capable of pursuing an independent foreign policy and freely choosing their own allies on the international stage.
We remain in close contact with our diplomatic missions in Iran. They are operating as usual and maintain constant communication with Russian nationals residing in the country. 👉 We advise them to exercise reasonable caution: refrain from visiting crowded areas, avoid photography and videography, and strictly follow the instructions of law-enforcement bodies and special services.

💬 On January 13, oil tankers chartered to transport Kazakh oil to foreign consumers were attacked by Ukrainian drones in the Black Sea near the maritime terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).
We resolutely condemn yet another terrorist attack by the Kiev regime against commercial civilian vessels that were fully complying with all norms of international law.
We regard this barbaric assault as further proof that the Kiev authorities not only disregard global energy stability, but also show blatant contempt for the interests of Kazakhstan – a country with which they allegedly seek to develop relations – as well as for those of their American partners, who are the largest shareholders of the CPC.
In this regard, we fully understand and share the serious concern expressed over these attacks in the statement by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan on January 14.
❗️ We fully align ourselves with the view of our allies on the need to take effective measures to ensure the security of hydrocarbon transportation, which, in our view, should bring the criminal Kiev regime to reason.
We also support Astana’s stance on the need for joint steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

В современном многообразном и взаимосвязанном мире именно от способности государств к созидательному взаимодействию напрямую зависит всеобщая стабильность и безопасность, и открытое, честное партнёрство предоставляет возможности для решения общих, даже самых непростых проблем.
Недаром говорят: мир не наступает сам, его строят, причем каждый день. Мир требует усилий, ответственности и осознанного выбора. Десятки стран в мире страдают от неуважения их суверенных прав, от хаоса и беззакония и не обладают силой и ресурсами, чтобы постоять за себя.
Разумный выход из этого положения видится в том, чтобы более настойчиво требовать соблюдения международного права всеми членами международного сообщества, а также оказывать реальное содействие пробивающему себе дорогу новому, более справедливому многополярному миропорядку – миропорядку, в котором все государства имели бы право на собственную модель роста, на то, чтобы самостоятельно, без влияния извне определять свою судьбу, сохраняя самобытную культуру и традиции.

We welcome future students of RUDN University! We are pleased to inform you that registration for the online stage of the RUDN University Open Olympiad for Foreign Citizens who do not have Russian citizenship has started.
Who can participate?
Foreign citizens (who do not have Russian citizenship) – school graduates and university graduate students (bachelor's and specialist's degrees).
❗️If you study at RUDN University, you must participate only in the Olympiad in person stage. If you are a student of another university, you can participate in an online format (optional).
What opportunities does the Olympics offer?
✅ Free tuition at RUDN University according to the quota of the Russian Government
✅ Chance to participate in the RUDN BRILLIANT STUDENTS scholarship competition
✅ The possibility of free tuition at RUDN University under the quota of the Russian Government, if available after the winners of the Olympiad are enrolled
✅ The opportunity to receive a significant discount on university tuition
How do I participate?
1. Register on the website for the online stage of the Olympiad;
2. Attach scanned copies of your passport or ID and diploma or certificate of education with grades for the last year of study;
3. Sign up for online testing on the website within the suggested time frame;
4. Take part in an individual interview (in case of successful completion of the test);
5. Wait for the publication of the lists of winners and prize-winners in the personal account of the participant of the Olympiad.
The Olympiad is held in the following disciplines:
• Computer Science (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree)
• Mathematics (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree)
• Physics (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree)
• Chemistry (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree)

🇷🇺 On January 15 Vladimir Putin received the letters of credence from newly appointed ambassadors of foreign nations. The ceremony took place in the St Alexander Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace.
The letters of credence were presented to the President of Russia by the representatives of Republic of Slovenia, Federal Republic of Somalia, Gabonese Republic, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, French Republic, Republic of Senegal, Republic of Rwanda, Czech Republic, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Portuguese Republic, People's Republic of Bangladesh, Federative Republic of Brazil, Kingdom of Norway, Kingdom of Sweden, Arab Republic of Egypt, Republic of Colombia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of Ghana, Republic of Namibia, Republic of Austria, Republic of Cuba, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Republic of Peru, Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Republic of Lebanon, Swiss Confederation, Republic of Iraq, Italian Republic, and Republic of Maldives.

💬 Vladimir Putin: International cooperation is fundamental to humanity’s sustainable development and prosperity. In today’s diverse and interconnected world, global stability and security depend directly on the ability of states to interact constructively. Open and honest partnerships create the conditions needed to tackle our shared challenges.
There is a reason why people say that peace does not come by itself. It must be built, day-by-day, and it is a painstaking process. Achieving peace requires effort, a sense of responsibility and the ability to make deliberate choices. This posture is especially relevant today considering the increasingly deteriorating international environment. Old conflicts are escalating, while new serious hotbeds of tension emerge.
At the same time, unilateral and dangerous actions often substitute diplomacy, efforts to come to a compromise or find solutions which would suit everyone. Instead of having states engage in dialogue with one another, there are those relying on the might-makes-right principle to assert their unilateral narratives, those who believe that they can impose their will, lecture others how they must live and issue orders.
Dozens of countries across the world have been suffering from the infringement of their sovereign rights, from chaos and lawlessness. They lack the strength and resources to stand up for themselves.
Placing a greater emphasis on having all members of the international community respect international law, as well as facilitating the advent of new emerging trends and a fair multipolar world order can be viewed as a reasonable solution.
I would like to note that Russia is sincerely committed to the ideals of a multipolar world. Our country has always pursued and will continue to pursue a balanced, constructive foreign policy course that takes into account both our national interests and the objective trends of global development. <...>
Russia advocates for strengthening the key, central role of the United Nations in global affairs, the organisation that celebrated its anniversary last year. <...>
Security must be truly comprehensive and, therefore, equal and indivisible, and it cannot be ensured for some at the expense of the security of others.
This principle is enshrined in fundamental international legal instruments.
Disregarding this basic, vital principle has never led to anything good and never will. This has been clearly demonstrated by the crisis around Ukraine, which became a direct consequence of years of ignoring Russia’s legitimate interests and a deliberate policy of creating threats to our security, including the advancement of the NATO bloc towards Russia’s borders – contrary to the public promises made to us.
