On 25th April 2023, in the main hall of the Russian House in Dar es Salaam, the association of graduates of Soviet and Russian Universities (Soyuz Alumni Association of Tanzania) held the 20th anniversary Meeting.
The idea to form this association was agreed-upon on 26th April, 2003. It is a coincidence that this historical date is also the date when Tanganyika and Zanzibar united to form the United Republic of Tanzania, underlining the need for unity.
This association is a registered NGO in Tanzania, with registration number 12831.
The meeting was attended by graduates of various Soviet and Russian Universities, among who were prominent executives in the Government of Tanzania, such as the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs - Hon. Dr. Suzan Kolimba.
During the event, the leaders presented to the audience the association’s background as well as its future planned activities.
The Director of the Russian Cultural Center Hon. Maria Pateeva also spoke at the event, where she renewed the assurance of continued cooperation and support of the Russian House to the Association. She emphasized the need for the association to be more proactive in formulating projects which aim at strengthening economical, social and cultural cooperation between Tanzania and Russia 🇹🇿🇷🇺

🎓 Forum of Alumni of Soviet and Russian Universities
📅On November 8-9, 2023, in the city of Dar-Es-Salam, Tanzania, the Forum of foreign post-graduates of the Soviet and Russian Universities representing the educational and healthcare systems of African countries will be held under the auspices of Rossotrudnichestvo.
🇷🇺 The Forum is designed to promote implementation and proliferation of the Russian language throughout Russian cultural and educational environment abroad and will be attended by heads and employees of higher educational and healthcare organizations which represent educational and healthcare authorities in ten African countries, as well as the leaders of students’ associations in African countries.
Russian University Representatives will come to the Forum to discuss the issues of international cooperation in the area of education.
Within the framework of the Forum, it is planned to conduct round table talks on topical issues of cooperation in the area of education, including growing connections between Russian and foreign educational organizations, joint scientific research, consolidation of the post-graduate community in the African region.
It is also planned to conduct the advanced training in “Management in Education and Healthcare.”

📅 On 9th of November, the representatives of Russian and Tanzanian universities held talks in Dar es Salaam under the leadership of Pavel Shevtsov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo.
The Russian side talked about the possibilities of joint work with Tanzanian partners in such areas as medicine, mining, IT technologies and information security, biotechnology, environmental protection, engineering and pedagogy.
The issue of promoting Russian language was actively discussed.
Following the meeting, Southwestern State University signed cooperation agreements with the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) and the University of Iringa.

Representatives of Alumni associations of ten African countries made suggestions on what forms of cooperation with Alma-mater universities they are interested in. The main issue raised by the graduates is continuing education, additional education, advanced training courses, summer schools.
The participants focused on the fact that graduates of Russian universities could obtain simplified entry to the Russian Federation in order to continue cooperation with Russia, investment or business.
Also, representatives of the associations of Alumni of Russian and Soviet universities expressed their wish to have more opportunities to study Russian in their countries.
