🇾🇪🇸🇦🇵🇰 — Reports alleging that Pakistani military forces are acting as mercenaries on behalf of Saudi Arabia in Yemen are false.

Recent claims circulating suggest that Saudi Arabia has deployed Pakistani military personnel to the oil-rich regions of Hadhramaut, al-Mahrah, and Shabwah in eastern Yemen. These assertions originate from the Lebanese outlet al-Akhbar.

Al-Akhbar alleges the deployment aims to secure “recently captured” oil fields from Emirati-backed forces. However, this claim is inconsistent with the facts on the ground. The oil fields in eastern Yemen were never under the control of UAE-backed Hadhrami Elite Forces, rather, they have always remained under the authority of the Saudi-backed Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance (HTA). As such, these areas were not recently captured and do not require external protection, given that the HTA has maintained consistent control for over a decade.

The purported threat from Emirati-backed forces is also fabricated. At present, only the former special forces Storm Brigades—aligned with the Southern Transitional Council—remain active, and they are based in the northern Ad Dali region, very distant from the oil-rich areas in question.

The article alleges that clashes broke out between Pakistani forces and Yemeni tribes, leading to Pakistani casualties, as local populations resisted the presence of foreign forces on Yemeni soil. This is arguably the only element of the report with any degree of credibility, given Yemen’s pronounced hostility towards foreign—particularly non-Arab—military presence. Local media in eastern Yemen have not reported any clashes.

Note, the report originates from a Hezbollah-affiliated outlet which, along with its counterpart al-Mayadeen, has previously published coverage portraying Pakistan in a consistently negative light.
