"EurAsia Daily News Outlet" claims the U.S Navy has lost a MQ-4C "Triton" UAV while it was patrolling above the Persian Gulf.
The report claiming that it was brought down by Iranian electronic warfare, the said drone confirmed to have squawked "7700" above Oman while flying towards the UAE after a routine patrol above the Hormuz straight.
Squawking "7700" is the international transponder code used for general, urgent, or critical in-flight emergency to air traffic control.
Analysis :
With heightened tension in the Middle East between U.S and Iran, such a downing is highly unlikely. However, technical issues are common with military hardwares especially high value assets like the MQ-4C "Triton", of which has seen high levels of activity and constant surveillance deployment, each sortie could easily last up to 20-30 hours of non-stop flight, with systems and sensitive components operating overtime, significantly increasing the chances of failure.
