🇺🇸🗽⚡️- New York City will be holding its ranked choice primary tonight for the Democratic nomination for Mayor. This year's race has drawn significant attention, due to the very likely possibility that the Indian socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani will win the race.

The 4 main candidates running are the aforementioned Mamdani, former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo, NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, and former City Comptroller Scott Stringer. Lander has no chance of winning in the final count, and has advised his supporters to rank Mamdani while Stringer has all but told his supporters to rank Cuomo.

Mamdani has drawn extreme controversy due to his stances on economic and social issues, and especially for his pro-Palestine rhetoric. His campaign has promised to freeze rents, get rid of public transportation fees, take control of private grocery stores, and defund the NYPD in favor of social workers.

On Palestine, which Governor Cuomo and the media have relentlessly attacked him over, Mamdani in 2023 all but openly endorsed Operation al-Aqsa Flood, the Hamas attack on Israel, and has repeatedly used the phrase "globalize the Intifada."

Because of Mamdani's anti-Israel rhetoric and far left policies, not a single major New York based newspaper has endorsed him, a rarity in City Democrat primaries. Mamdani has also only been a US citizen since late 2018. For reference, President Trump met with Kim Jong Un before Mamdani was an "American."

Mamdani's support base, according to polling, is overwhelming with young college educated men and Asian immigrants. Party activists, like the former DNC Vice Chair and recently ousted David Hogg, have pointed to his campaign as one to emulate to target young men which the Democrats have systemically struggled to reach. However, his support from young men in the city is more explained by the prevalence of young male immigrants and college educated White transplants.

His highest profile endorsement has come from Senator Bernie Sanders, but the rest of the Democratic Party and its media apparatus have vehemently opposed his candidacy. According to AdImpact, Cuomo has spent more than triple what Mamdani's campaign has and recent hits on NBC and CNN have targeted Mamdani's character.

Despite this, polling in the last week has shown Mamdani overtaking Cuomo in the final round of the ranked choice vote. The loudest blaring alarm signifying a possible Mamdani win is the absurd demographics of the early vote.

Traditionally, early voting has been dominated by older voters and those who vote in every election. However, according to analysis by the Gothamist, nearly a quarter of early voters are newly registered Democrats and the largest share of overall voters were between the ages of 25-34, Mamdani's strongest demographic. Polls also show that, among those who already voted, Mamdani won them by around 10% points while those voting on election day are only going for Cuomo by around 5%.

Cuomo's support base is with Hispanics, blacks, older Whites, and Orthodox Jews. Among these, Older Whites and Jews are the only demographics that are guaranteed to have as high a turnout as Mamdani's college educated base, which is why a possible Cuomo victory will be more difficult to materialize.

Despite the outcome of tonight, both Governor Cuomo and Mamdani have pledged to run as an independent candidates if they lose the Democratic nomination. Current Mayor Eric Adams is running for re-election as an independent, and Republican Curtis Sliwa is running for his Party nomination unopposed. New York City hasn't elected a GOP mayor since Mike Bloomberg in 2005, however, with 4 leftist candidates, its possible Sliwa can win come November.

A Mamdani victory would be by far the highest profile electoral victory for a leftist candidate in 21st century American politics.

🇺🇸🗽⚡️- All 10 members of the City Council Progressive Caucus who faced primary challenges from moderate Democrats have won re-election. A huge defensive win for the Socialist bloc in City government.

🇺🇸🗽⚡️- Cuomo's voter base is extremely diverse. He is winning Blacks, Latinos, some White ethnics, and Jews but Mamdani is receiving dictator level support from Asians and college educated Whites.

🇺🇸🗽⚡️- In Staten Island, the most conservative part of the city, Cuomo is only winning the election day vote by 3% points. A very harrowing sign for him and great for Mamdani.

🇺🇸🗽⚡️- At 70% reporting Mamdani still leads by 8%.

🇺🇸🗽⚡️- Keep in mind the third place candidate Brad Lander has endorsed Mamdani for the ranked choice vote, meaning in the upcoming counting rounds Mamdani will be winning around 2/3rds of his votes.

🇺🇸🗽⚡️- Rerum Novarum is now projecting that Zohran Mamdani will win the Democratic nomination for NYC Mayor.

This is the most significant electoral victory for a socialist, Indian, and Muslim in recent American history.

🇷🇺⚡️- Russia is pushing ahead with plans for nuclear-powered submarines to haul LNG along the Northern Sea Route year-round.
