Workshop “The Microchip as a Score”
October 25–26 · f0rthspace · 4:20 PM

A two-day workshop on designing and soldering a synthesizer based on the 40106 chip.
Two days to understand how sound is born, build your first circuit, and turn electricity into music.

Day 1 — theory and experiments on a breadboard: components, circuits, light, body, graphite.
Day 2 — soldering and modifying MICRORACK Synth MFOS module, and making finished device that you’ll take home.

No prior experience required. All materials are provided.

Led by Polina Shmonina — media artist and synthesizer builder, curator of phatch lab.

Ray State creates a space where artists, musicians, and engineers can learn, perform, and bring their ideas to life.

On October 25, we held our first soldering session with Polina Shmonina and Andrey Strokov at @f0rthsp4ce

Together, we built Microrack-based @microrack synthesizers and explored how electricity turns into sound.

It was amazing! ⚡️
Thanks to everyone who joined us.

Coreglitch — Live on Microrack at Ray State Wave
https://youtu.be/TnwZPhmVs7Y

Live performance by Coreglitch, co-founder and technical director of Microrack Synth recorded during the first Ray State Wave in Tbilisi.

The entire set was performed on the Microrack — a compact, handcrafted modular system developed by the Microrack team

Distorted loops, raw voltage tension, and pulsating rhythm merge into dense, physical techno — electricity in motion.

On November 13, at Auditoria (Tbilisi), we’ll hold a lecture “Basics of Modular Synthesis.”

This lecture explores the fundamental principles of modular synthesis — from simple building blocks to creating living, evolving sound systems.

We’ll cover:
— main types of modules: generators, filters, modulators — what they do and how they work
— how to connect modules together to make sound come alive
— types of synthesis: FM, wavetable, additive, subtractive — how they differ and sound
— and, of course, something fun :)

What you’ll need:
— a laptop
— installed VCV Rack

Venue: Auditoria, 22 Simon Janashia Street, Tbilisi
Time: November 13, starts at 20:00
Language: Russian
