Need Help- Junior Devops
Hi,my first post on reddit and it feels weird. Im currently working as a mechanic and for the past months ive been learning devops. Before a month i passed RHCSA exam and a course which included vagrant, docker, jenkins, elastic stack. The course’s exam was a parctial cobination of all tools. Today i passed a networking fundamentals exam and im about to take aws solution architect in two weeks. With all this learned can i start a job as a junior devops ? I dont know anybody who does devops, so im looking for someone to measure my experience

My Philosophy for Getting Paid
I have a principle I try to stick to with respect to how much I get paid. I use several different websites to look at what the going salary range is for someone with my skillset, location, education, experience, etc. Glassdoor currently says $100K to $160K for me. And then I look at my own pay. I want my own pay to be somewhere in the range the websites say.
I decided some time back that while I like money, and more money even more so, there are tradeoffs that come with making more money so it would be better off to delegate pay to a principle or formula like this and spend my career efforts instead on finding work that I enjoy and that helps me learn new things.
I believe it has mostly gone well for me, though there's one instance where it didn't. When I took my last job I was moving across country and it was very convenient to find this position at a place in the town I was moving to. It paid at the very bottom of the going range at the time. But I was fine with that. It was in range.
But then the company gave me a tiny cost of living raise the first two years, and no raise the third year (because pandemic). And when I flat out asked for a raise or a promotion they didn't give it to me. So my pay dropped out of the range. I was slipping. Eventually I quit and found better work.
On the upside, the next job I took, the one I'm at now, pays really well and I enjoy the work a lot.

Working in startup as junior
I've been working in a company that does data center hosting in Paris for 2 years now and I'm not really satisfied with my salary so I started looking for another company and I found a start- up who wants to recruit me with a salary difference of about 20 k per year. the problem is that as devops, i mainly did python and golang development and a little bit of terraform on vmware but very very little linux system or ops. So I ask myself a lot of questions about this start-up job, knowing that I'm very junior, that scares me a little. I wanted to know if some of you have already had start-up jobs as a junior to find out if I'm going straight into the wall or if it's really an experience that could bring me a lot even if I'm a small little lost in all the possibilities of devops. Knowing that possibly in this start-up the devops team is very underdeveloped and that I will potentially be alone.
Do you think it's a good Idea ?

Hey guys,
My boss found this on Linkedin and wanted us to move forward on it. We have around $15,000 in monthly spend so we can save a lot with Usage, but not sure if it’s a good option.
Are they able to actually provide the full savings or is this more of a marketing tactic?

A tool to connect two VPCs?
In AWS, regardless of IaC, sometimes I need for testing or just manually to connect two VPCs networking wise. Each time I need to think about both of their route tables, security groups, and if they are connected to a transit gateway - and if they are, to configure routing for the transit gateways for inter-region connects. I guess it's not that hard to automate all of it, but I'm just asking if there's a tool that does this or at least shows visibility into what's missing.

Nervous about new DevOps opportunity
Hello, i have 6+ years of experience working with multiple DevOps tools ,but i have mostly worked on implementation of DevOps in monolithic based applications..hence i do not have extensive working experience in kubernetes and micro service based architectures.
I have trained myself with poc's and have mostly covered wide range of tutorials and able to crack few jobs with extensive k8's implementation.
However i am really nervous of joining as it is out of my comfort zone and afraid if I would be able to cope up with real scenarios.
Could someone guide what things i need to take care of before i join the job, i still have around 1-2 months of time.

How do you deploy with immutable tags?
My company deploys most services on Fargate, managing infrastructure with Terraform. In our container definitions, we specify images with the `latest` tag.
I prefer dev work, but I've had to do a fair bit of ops here, so I've been learning about best practices, and I understand images should generally have immutable tags, which makes sense to me (drawing analogies with functional programming).
But *how* does this work in practice? Currently, our deployment script does the following:
* build and push a new image to ECR
* move the `latest` tag to the just-pushed image
* rotate the running containers so they use the new `latest` image
If tags are immutable, then step 2 doesn't work. It doesn't make sense to change Terraform every time we need to deploy, so I'm guessing there's some other way that I'm missing.
How do you set up your Terraform/deployment pipeline to work with immutable tags?

Kafka Monitoring With New Relic
Hello DevOps community, I have a pretty basic problem that I've been scratching my head for over 3 days and I need your help.
Problem: There's a random consumer lag in multi regional consumers and I can't figure out why and I can't get decent information from New Relic.

Context \~
I have some Kafka consumers in 2 different regions and there's significant latency between these 2 regions. Let's say Region A and Region B.
Most of my services are in Region B, including my Kafka producers, brokers and some consumers. Some consumers are in Region A. But, when they consume, they still have to make call to Region B because my database resides in Region B.

Everything was working perfectly, it still is\~. But, last week, my kafka consumers saw a huge lag for 3 consecutive days and then it came back to normal. I checked logs, no 5xx or 4xx errors. As a matter of fact, everything was 200.
I'm trying to build some graphs in New Relic to see how often my consumers are consuming the messages in different regions. The problem is that the new relic is setup to get metrics from the broker and it has information about offset and whatnot for consumers. When I construct any query, it will show everything under 1 region. The only difference I can see is the IP address of my consumers, which should be good enough to create a graph and see how many messages which consumer consumed in what time.

I wrote this query
SELECT rate(average(
But, the graph that I get from this seem wrong. Because offset keeps on increasing (which makes sense). If the consumers recovered after 3 days, then this offset value should go down as well. Well, at least that is my understanding.

Can someone please help me with this?
I hate how limited this information is from new relic and they don't have these kind of queries already in a template. The template they have is pretty much useless. Bytes in and out... but nothing on the offsets and relations of consumers and producers. So much for charging per user.

Vanus: An open-source Serverless message queue 15-second installation and No operation
Hi everyone, My team and I have been working on a new Message Queue named Vanus, one of its features is that its messages(we call them events actually) can directly trigger cloud functions. Here is the documentation site: [https://docs.linkall.com](https://docs.linkall.com/). I'd appreciate any feedback on things people like/dislike in Vanus. We currently support AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions, and Knative. And I'd also like to know what features you guys are most interested in considering for a new message queue; any suggestion is welcome. We also made a K8S online environment [https://play.linkall.com](https://play.linkall.com/); You can experience Vanus directly through this environment if you wish.

AI in DevOps?
Are there any interesting open source projects on using various ML, DL, NN techniques in DevOps/SRE applications? Which solves a more commonly faced problem than a network load analyzer or a hardware failure predictor.
Something like predictive kubernetes nodes load management or smart test suite, which selects the tests likely to fail on a code change.
