Is it possible to automate a web session via the CLI?
I love to automate things and I want to automate what currently is a manual step where someone goes to a website, fills out a few forms, and presses the submit button.
Is there a tool that could help me accomplish this in some sort of linux box or container? Or is it something that can only be done on a computer with a graphical display?

Need ideas to improve IoT infra
So I am intending to develop an ioT platform.
In the infrastructure has the following devices and its purpose
1) IoT device
2) Raspberry PI, acts as an AP to gather the data from the IoT Devices and push it to a central server every 5 IoT device, one raspberry PI
3) Central server – gathers all the data interprets it and stores it. It contains a webserver, database management system and an MQQT broker
My idea is to omit the central server totally and the PI works as both an AP and a central server
The idea is, the AP services are running in container, the central server is running on a clustered container
Is this possible?

Abstractions/low code platforms above kubernetes?
Hi everyone,
Recently i discovered crossplane and it seems to me that is this is kind of a low code platform above a kubernetes cluster.
I feel like this platform create it so that developer only have to focus on the application side and can use the crossplane api to deploy and such?
https://crossplane.io/
I'd like to hear your opinions about it, also feel free to share alternatives, so i can take a look at others :P

Google Zanzibar versus OPA (Open Policy Agent)
What are the main differences between Google Zanzibar and OPA? OPA seems to solve many of our use cases out of the box but Zanzibar would require an in house implementation. Our team is very concerned about scalability in the future and this led us to consider an in house Zanzibar implementation. What are the other considerations we should pay attention to in picking a policy engine and overall permissions system?

Explaining boto3: How to use any AWS service with Python
boto3 is a Python Software Development Kit to create, configure, and manage AWS services. It's built on botocore, which in a nutshell, allows us to forget about underlying JSON specifications and use Python (boto3) when interacting with AWS APIs.
This article looks at how boto3 works and how it can help us interact with various AWS services.

Some Security Risks of Using Push-Based CD
After going through several conversations, including here, that relate to Push-Based Continuous Delivery like a fine approach, I felt like there is need to describe in detail why I consider it highly insecure.
Here is a summary of security issues I see:
1. Credential leak from the CI system.
2. A person with push access to source code may abuse the system.
3. Management APIs from deployment instance must be widely exposed.
4. Credential leak on transport layer.
5. Increased pressure on book-keeping and maintenance.
What I'm suggesting instead - always use Pull-Based CD with an agent on the instance itself doing the deployment.

git pull without providing username and passwordI have deployed my website to a VPS and want to automate the build step with Github Actions. It fails however because the command git pull asks for my username and password every time. I've seen multiple questions about this on Stack Overflow, but what confuses me is that on my computer I was never prompted a username and password. So why does this happen on the VPS?
Thanks in advance
Edit: I'm also getting a mail with deprecation notice about using a password as authentication method.

The nginx container should sit in front of apache and redirect all traffic to the apache server.

How to move towards DevOps role?
I have bachelors in Software Engineering, after graduation I worked as QA for 2 years (both manual and automation using capybara & selenium). Currently I am working as a System Engineer mostly looking after network monitoring and a little bit of working on linux (mostly some scripting in python). I want to move towards DevOps.
I am able to do the following:
1. Basic Python scripting (Created few automation scripts for my work recently)
2. Navigate around Linux, do some simple bash scripting
Here is my plan:
1. RHCSA Certification
2. AWS Solution Architect Certification (I already have Cloud Practitioner Cert)
3. Study CCNA, maybe no certification needed here
I know for DevOps, I need to study Dockers and Kubernetes and some CI/CD tools.
Do you think this plan is a good path to reach DevOps, as I aware that DevOps are not junior level jobs. I might need to look for a System Administrator job first before moving towards DevOps.
Any suggestion would be helpful.

Anyone managed to use nginx ingress controller with consul-connect ?
It seems all the documentation is for traefik, and there isn’t a good documentation for nginx?
For some reason i keep getting “failed to detect service name”
I think its related to the fact that the nginx controller uses multiple services and consul is failing to detect them.

How do I learn to screen companies better?
In the past few weeks, I've interviewed at 4 or 5 different places and I notice they almost all have very strange or decidedly "un-DevOps" practices. Because of this, I end up dropping out of the interview process and this isn't a good look on my behalf apparently (even though I could be rejected by any of these companies for the same reason..... it pisses them off).
The general trend I'm noticing is an insane number of companies have Operations teams that use Cloud infra, and so all of a sudden that's supposed to be "DevOps". The biggest thing I've noticed is most places, the devs aren't responsible for writing their infra code. This seems like such a huge issue to me, I can't even imagine how a company is supposed to grow in a cloud-native environment if everything has to go through a separate team (hello ye olde Wall Tossing).
Because of this, asking these teams "what cool projects are you working on?" is an awkward question, because they aren't working on anything cool. They're shovelling Terraform for the entire organization.
I would like to learn how to navigate this in a tactful way, or learn how to target specific companies that employ these practices, but I'm not sure how to do that. Any advice?

My biggest fear is I'll end up somewhere that is a dead-end and won't be able to continue building the skills I need.

Tech Startups For those that chose GitLab instead of GitHub, why did you choose it?
Hey folks,
Just raised a small round of seed funding. We're a small (5-7) but mighty team and currently looking at our DevOps tool stack and want to make sure it's prepared to scale.
Devs (myself included) are all pretty familiar with GitHub for OSS / personal projects but not sure about how it would scale once we start cranking up our development pace. I've heard some complaints with GitLab (slow Cloud hosted runners, tricky access provisioning within teams, etc) but it seems to be prominent amongst startups and I'm trying to understand why.
Curious to hear everyone's thoughts - for those that chose GitLab instead of GitHub, why did you choose it?

What are my chances to get hired with 0 experience just proven knowledge through personal projects
I just graduated this year with a BS in computer science.
But I've had around 2 years and a half experience as QA which sadly was mainly manual.
I really like devOps and I am really motivated to work on myself to become qualified.
I did some research and I plan on following this path:
\- Linux - Python - AWS - (additionally might also learn GoLang and Google Cloud)
Then I will jump into the following:
\- Terraform - Git/GitHub - Docker - Jenkins - ECS - ELK stack (additional : ansible - gitLab - Lambda - CodeDeploy - Kubernetes - Promotheus)
I plan on building projects and utilizing everything I am learning. And upload all that to git.
What are my chances to get hired if I follow the above mentioned path which I expect to take me around half a year?
As much as I love devOps but I am in a tight situation where I can't afford not learning something that can secure me jobs in Europe else I will get stuck in my shit country.
I also probably will travel to Europe with my SO first then apply from there, but the employer will still need to give me a work visa, which I suppose they might prefer people with more years of experience.
I really appreciate your honest opinion as I wanna weigh the pros and cons before starting this path. (I can still try to make an easier shift towards test automation or software engineer)
