BUYER BEWARE: The Apple/Klarna Lease Program has a massive return loophole. I am now paying $600 for a watch I don't own.

If you are considering using the new Klarna lease option at Apple checkout, please read this first. I am currently stuck paying $50/month for a device I returned, and neither company will help me.

Here is what happened:

Sept 9: Ordered an Apple Watch 12 using the Klarna lease option promoted on Apple's site.
Sept 18: Received the watch.
Sept 25 (7 days later): Decided it wasn't for me and initiated a return with Apple. Mailed it back the same day.
Sept 29: Apple officially received the watch and processed the return.

The Loophole: A week later, I noticed my Klarna lease was still active. When I contacted them, they told me I was outside the 14-day return window and the lease could not be cancelled.

It turns out Klarna calculates the 14 days from the date of purchase (Sept 9), rather than the date you actually receive the item (Sept 18) - while Apple calculates the 14 days from day of receipt of the item. Because of mail transit times, my return "arrived" too late for Klarna, even though I initiated it well within Apple's policy. This is a twelve month lease - and at the end of the lease - I’m expected to send the device in - or pay off the remaining balance (which will be an additional $300 - for the model I purchased). Since I have no watch to send in - I’ll be shelling out an additional $300 next year to pay for the watch I had for 7 days.

The Result:

Klarna says: "Too late, you owe us $50/month for the next year."
Apple says: "You returned it within our window, but we already processed the device so we can't send it back to you."

I am now paying for a ghost watch. If you are going to use this program, do not return your device by mail - and make sure you return within 14 days of the Order. Return it directly to an Apple Store so the return is processed instantly. Otherwise, you might end up like me.

UPDATE: After 2 days of fighting, Klarna has officially cancelled my lease, and this issue is resolved (for me). However, I still strongly advise anyone considering an Apple/Klarna lease to be careful. Make sure to check the purchase date versus the delivery date before committing, as the return window may close before you even receive a pre-ordered device.

Upcoming home device – thoughts on custom widgets

Apple is reportedly unveiling its smart display on October 13. It'll likely show the basics: home status (lights, cameras), weather, calendar. But some of us would want it to show something more niche, like headlines from a local newspaper.
I see two ways Apple could do this:
1. Describe-a-widget. You tell Siri what you want and Apple Intelligence builds it, like "Describe a Shortcut" and "Describe an Extension" in iOS 27.
2. Third-party apps. The new "homeOS" could be open to developers, similar to Apple TV. That would create a new (small) platform for Apple, with a revenue share on every sale.
What do you think? I'd prefer real third-party apps from real developers (even if they're 90% vibe coded). But if "describe a widget" works well enough, it could be a great addition.
What would you want it to show?

Controlling an AppleTV (the device, not the streaming service) with an iPhone is an absolutely miserable experience.

Staring off: I have two AppleTVs, one in the living room, and one in the bedroom. My wife and I both have iPhones (16 Pro Max and a vanilla 15).

Every time I want to control my AppleTV, I have to swipe down to open control center, click the remote icon, select which AppleTV I want to control (because it never guesses the right one), wait for it to connect to that AppleTV (if it ever does; that’s never guaranteed), then actually control the AppleTV.

Once my phone goes to sleep, I have to go through the entire above-described process the next time I need to interact with the AppleTV, be it to skip an ad, change shows/movies, or select a new show/movie after the one I was watching ends.

Apple used to pride themselves on how well their products work together, but this experience flies directly in the face of that pride.

Is there a better way to control my AppleTVs? I’d even be willing to pay a small amount for a third-party app (even though I don’t feel like I should need to) just to not have to go through all this faff every single time I want to interact with my devices.

Before you ask, my AppleTV remotes have been lost long ago, mostly because it seems like they’re designed to be lost by being so slim and small.

I built Supplement Cabinet, an app to organize and track your daily supplements

Hey r/apple!
I’ve been working on an iOS app called Supplement Cabinet, and wanted to share it with you all.
The idea came from a simple problem: managing multiple supplements, remembering when to take them, and keeping track of what’s running low was becoming a hassle.
So I built an app that lets you organize everything in a visual cabinet, create daily routines, set reminders, track your intake, and get notified when it’s time to refill.
I also added some simple insights and milestones to make staying consistent a little more rewarding.
I’ve put a lot of effort into making the UI feel polished and enjoyable to use.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/supplement-cabinet-tracker/id6810912385

Would genuinely appreciate any feedback, especially on the design and features. Thanks for checking it out!

Trovelo: a trip planner with no servers, no account, just your iCloud

Hey r/apple, solo developer here. It's Sunday, so I wanted to share something I've been building for the past months.

Trovelo is a trip planner for iPhone, iPad and Mac:

\- MCP on Mac: Claude, Codex or any MCP client can build a full itinerary inside the app, running 100% locally and off by default.

\- SwiftData + CloudKit: your trips live on your device and sync through your own private iCloud. No account, nothing uploaded to me.

\- Foundation Models: type "dinner at Nobu 8pm ¥4000" and on-device AI turns it into a card with time, price and category. Works in 13 languages.

\- MapKit: route optimization for each day and a map of every place you've been, built from your own photo library.

\- WidgetKit and Live Activities: your next stop on the lock screen.

\- Shared trips through CloudKit sharing, so you can plan with the people you travel with, still without my own servers.

\- Universal Purchase, so one payment covers iPhone, iPad and Mac. Free tier with 3 trips, Pro is a one-time $9.99, currently $6.99 with code TROVELO699 (Settings → Redeem).

https://apps.apple.com/app/id6760258252

If you try it and have ideas, there's a small community at r/trovelo where users suggest and vote on what gets built next. Most of the recent features started there.

I built chordlist, a songbook for iPhone and iPad that keeps every song as a Markdown file

chordlist is a songbook app for iPhone and iPad (iOS 26 or later). Lyrics and chords live in one Markdown file per song, in a folder you choose, so they work with iCloud Drive, Obsidian or any text editor. No account, and your library is never uploaded.

What sets it apart from services like Ultimate Guitar is that the chords are stored separately from the lyrics, not as characters over each line. This lets chordlist find songs in your library that share a progression, even in different keys, so learning one song teaches you others, and two songs with the same changes make an easy mashup.

Features
\- Transpose and autoscroll
\- Filter by tags, search and shuffle
\- Import from a web link or the share sheet

Pricing: your first 10 songs are free, then a one-time unlock for unlimited songs, no subscription. The launch price is €6.99 / $5.99 until the end of the year; after that it will increase €9.99 / $8.99.
This special offer code gets it for €4.99.
