Russia's Scientific and Cultural Cooperation with the Middle East Discussed in Moscow 🗣

The 4th International Scientific and Expert Forum "Russia - Middle East" was held in Moscow on October 28-30, organized by the Primakov Center in cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The forum, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Yevgeny Primakov, brought together leading experts from Russia and countries of the region.

Программа первого дня началась для российских молодых исследователей с визита в две ключевые организации, расположенные в Венском международном центре: Департамент ядерной энергии МАГАТЭ и Управление по вопросам разоружения ООН.

Ключевые темы обсуждения:

🔵Основные направления деятельности МАГАТЭ и УВР ООН
🔵Рынок малых модульных реакторов и тенденции в области ядерной энергетики
🔵Роль многосторонней дипломатии в режиме ядерного нераспространения и контроля над вооружениями

Во второй половине дня делегация встретилась с экспертами научно-исследовательской организации «Открытая ядерная сеть» (Open Nuclear Network). В фокусе внимания — современные подходы к снижению ядерных рисков через анализ данных из открытых источников.

Vienna Educational Mission | Day One ⚛️

The first day's program began with Russian young researchers visiting two key organizations located at the Vienna International Centre: the IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy and the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs.

Key discussion topics:

🔵 Core activities of the IAEA and UNODA
🔵 Small Modular Reactors market and nuclear energy trends
🔵 The role of multilateral diplomacy in nuclear non-proliferation and arms control

In the afternoon, the delegation met with experts from the Open Nuclear Network (ONN). The discussion focused on modern approaches to nuclear risk reduction through open-source data analysis.

Как устроена работа российской дипломатии в Вене? Об этом участники образовательной миссии узнали сегодня из первых уст.

📍Постпредство России при международных организациях в Вене

На площадке Постпредства Постоянный представитель Михаил Ульянов рассказал молодым исследователям об особенностях работы международных организаций, расположенных в австрийской столице, и ответил на вопросы, связанные с проблематикой ОМУ.

Следом состоялась серия тематических брифингов, в рамках которой российские дипломаты обсудили с участниками:

🔵проблематику ядерной и физической безопасности, гарантии МАГАТЭ;
🔵особенности ДВЗЯИ и перспективы вступления Договора в силу;
🔵аспекты работы российской дипломатии на площадке ОБСЕ в нынешних условиях;
🔵инструменты цифровой дипломатии.

📍Посольство России в Австрии

В историческом здании Посольства участники встретились с Чрезвычайным и Полномочным Послом России в Австрии Дмитрием Любинским. В ходе беседы они погрузились в специфику функционирования венской площадки и будущее российско-австрийских отношений.

Рабочий день завершился экскурсией по Свято-Николаевскому собору в Вене.

Уже завтра наша миссия переместится в Зайберсдорф, где участники познакомятся с работой Центра тренинга и технологической поддержки ПК ОДВЗЯИ и лабораторий МАГАТЭ.

How does Russian diplomacy work in Vienna? Today, the participants of the educational mission learned about this firsthand.

📍Permanent Mission of Russia to the International Organizations in Vienna

At the Permanent Mission, Permanent Representative Mikhail Ulyanov briefed young researchers on the specifics of international organizations based in the Austrian capital and addressed questions related to WMD issues.

This was followed by a series of thematic briefings, where Russian diplomats discussed with participants:

🔵nuclear safety and security issues and IAEA safeguards;
🔵CTBT specifics and prospects for the Treaty's entry into force;
🔵aspects of Russian diplomacy at the OSCE platform under current circumstances;
🔵digital diplomacy tools.

📍Russian Embassy in Austria

At the historic Embassy building, participants met with Dmitry Lyubinsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Austria. The discussion covered the specifics of Vienna's diplomatic platform and the future of Russian-Austrian relations.

The working day concluded with a tour of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Vienna.

Tomorrow, our mission will move to Seibersdorf, where participants will explore CTBTO TeST Centre and the IAEA laboratories.
