Uthum Gunasekara came to Russia from Sri Lanka in 2016.
Since then his life has been inseparably connected with Polytechnic University: for a year he studied Russian at the university preparatory program, then became a student of the Institute of Energy, where he successfully completed his bachelor’s degree and continued his master’s degree studies. 👨🎓
Now Uthum is mastering nuclear power, participates in various projects of Rosatom State Corporation and, moreover, is its ambassador.
In his free time, he travels around Russia and has an impressive list of cities he has been to, which not every citizen of Russia can boast of! 👍

Wow! Polytech scientists were the first in the world to discover a new effect in glasses💎
A group of scientists from the research laboratory "Multifunctional Glassy Materials" for the first time experimentally obtained a giant (15 times) amplification of the signal of the second optical harmonic in polarized glasses.
This new effect will allow in the future to reduce the cost of telecommunications equipment by replacing expensive crystal elements with glass elements.
The results of the study were published in the scientific journal "The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters".

On November 25, the winners and prize-winners of regional subject student Olympiads were awarded. The students of SPbPU were among the best.
