Right after bombing the PLO delegation in Tunis, the palestinian leadership decided to move to Algiers in order to proclaim independence. In November 1988, before and when the conference started, Algerian air defenses detected multiple formations of unknown fighters, likely the same israeli F-15s as used in Operation "Wooden Leg", coming from the eastern Mediterranean. Algerian radar stations in Annaba tracked the incursion; Immediately, a group of MiG-23s and Foxbats took off to reinforce four MiGs already on the way towards the group. SAM sites were in active state and the entire Navy was on patrol.

Thanks to the work of the radar men of the 31st SAM Battery Group, 11th SAM Group and the MiG pilots, the unknown group retreated to the eastern Mediterranean, and Palestine was now able to move forward on the international stage.

So don't even think about attacking the big fishes today, Meir.

The USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70, Nimitz-class), with it’s Carrier Strike Group is within the Arabian Sea and carries the following currently:

• 12 F-35C Lightning IIs
• 12 EA-18G Growlers.

The USS Nimitz (CVN-68) & it’s Strike Group are currently inbound within a few days’ time to join the Vinson’s crew, and they bring:

To also note, 12 to 18 F-22A Raptors are currently inbound to the Middle East, as well as a potential 6 to 12 more Aerial Refuelers.
