🇩🇿❓🇷🇺 UPDATE: Su-34E confirmed for an African country
The Fighterbomber channel, as mentioned above, has just released a higher-quality video of the Su-34E in desert camouflage, confirming more details about the aircraft seen at the Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association Plant.
According to the post, the camo is more red than brown, and the aircraft is part of a large batch being prepared for delivery to one of the African countries further fueling speculation that Algeria is the likely recipient.
The export variant, designated SU-34E, reportedly features an enhanced electronic countermeasures (ECM) system compared to the latest Su-34s in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS). However, its core systems remain unchanged. As expected for export versions, it cannot use munitions with special combat payloads (SBCh, read nuclear bombs).
This is the clearest sign yet that the SU-34 is heading into the export market and potentially marking Algeria as its first foreign operator.

There is an expansion of the Laghouat airbase with the construction of several new hangars, approximately 12 hangars. The base is the same as the headquarters of the Fourth Support and Penetration Regiment, which operates the SU-24 bombers. Obvious preparation for receiving new planes.

🇰🇵 North Korea has test-fired a new domestically produced radar-guided air-to-air missile from one of its MiG-29s.
The missile was launched during a live-fire drill on May 15, 2025, targeting both a cruise missile and a drone. According to footage and post test reports, the missile achieved direct hits, a first for a North Korean developed radar-guided, medium-range air to air missile.
While we (unsurprisingly) don't know much about its specs, defense observers suggest that the missile has active radar homing guidance, likely modeled after Russia’s R-77 or PL-12 (itself a chinese version of the russian R-77) systems. Its range is estimated to be 60–80 km, which places it firmly in the medium-range BVR (Beyond Visual Range) category. The seeker head seems to be either a Russian AGAT derivative or a Chinese clone adapted for DPRK electronics.

Personal note: Not gonna lie, I figured they'd get around to developing their own radar guided AAMs eventually but not this fast. Either they’ve had help or they’ve been very focused and cooking in silence for a while.

🇨🇿 – You’ve probably heard of the L-39 as a trainer, and yeah, it trained thousands of pilots across the world. But what people forget is this nice Czech jet has also seen real action.
During conflicts like the civil war in Libya and in Syria, L-39s were used not just for training, but also for real ground attack missions. No, it’s obviously not a supersonic monster but with light weapons, good visibility, and a tough airframe, it can get the job done. For nations without deep pockets, its an affordable way to field combat capable aircraft.
And that’s the real magic of the L-39: its value. Its fast enough (max speed is around 750 km/h), agile, very simple to maintain and cheap to operate compared to full fledged fighters. You can get one for less than the cost of a new SUV in some cases. Yeah thats wild.
So yeah, it might not break the sound barrier, but if you're a poor country in dire need of CAS, you can get one for the price of a 2025 Mercedes Benz G Class and slap some rocket pods on it.
