If typing an extra letter is out of the question, you can always set up a bash alias or two to make it just as quick as ls, if not quicker.

If you want to increase your bandwidth for doing things like scraping while using torsocks or proxychains, you can use the vanguards add-on for Tor. In addition to hardening hidden services against a multitude of advanced attacks, the vanguards plugin can be used to drastically increase a Tor client's available bandwidth, without sacrificing anonymity or privacy. Do also be aware that this can impact performance for less powerful systems.

If you want to play around with Tor Alpha, there are many cool features. I think the coolest of these is the "Vanguards Lite" setting which is basically a scaled-down version of Vanguards. You can set this in your torrc file if you decide to use Tor Alpha. Consult the Tor Alpha manpage for more info.
Please be aware that Tor Alpha is Experimental Software and there could be bugs/vulns that we are not aware of. Use it at your own discretion.

I think the lesson to be learned here is that one does not need a well-funded APT with easy access to the spiciest 0-days to be pwned. All one needs is a misconfiguration here and there, or some unpatched software.
