Appreciate your inner beauty

Inner cheer is destroyed by a conscience which bites. Learn to do everything in a worthwhile way. It’s an art which teaches you to appreciate your inner beauty (It makes you think twice about ruining it, too)

Don’t be hard on yourself when making a mistake. It’s much more effective to be handled with love. Telling the self off is a terrible habit, it subtly shapes a nature of sorrow.

In yesterday’s message, we had explained four types of thoughts, words and actions, which create corresponding sanskaras in the soul. Not only corresponding sanskaras but all of them create different types of sanskaras depending on the emotion behind the thought, word and action. Also, the four types of thoughts, words and actions as mentioned yesterday, in decreasing order of purity are – positive, necessary, unnecessary and negative. We have explained what all four mean.

The whole day sees different types of situations and ups and downs. Life is constantly turning. Situations do arise and settle down soon all the time. Sometimes some situations remain for a longer time also which is less rare. 𝗕𝘂𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. Because, the ones who are internally powerful, for them situations are like bubbles on water, which are temporary. They only remain positive in any kind of situation to see the situation go away soon. They smile inspired of situations existing in their lives, which in more than 9 out of 10 times say goodbye very easily and in a span of a few hours or days and not more than that. Of course, there is that one odd situation like an illness or a difficult relationship or a loss of a close loved one, which can last for a few months or more than that and that too not in all cases. Very often, you hear people complaining of how situations are sticky in nature and refuse to go away from their lives. Of course, there is the past negative karma which is the big reason for these situations, as explained earlier in this message series. The law of karma is something that no one can run away from. Imagine many past births under the influence of a deadly negative and impure emotion like lust or a little less negatively powerful emotion of anger. These can destroy the soul’s cleanliness and fill it with negative and impure sanskaras. Here we are talking of thousands of such thoughts, words and actions of the past births – how negatively influential they can be on our present. But remember there is a way out of this – 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗔𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄, 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿. 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁. 𝗗𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 – 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆.

Reviewing the day that has gone by and checking how the quality of karmas has been and then ensuring that the karmas the next day are of a positive nature is a very good protection. It is a protection against difficult situations and also in reducing the intensity of these situations. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁. So people who are creating negative thoughts, words and actions will sooner or later face sorrow. This is because sometimes the law of karma can take time to catch up with someone but they will face the results of their actions sooner or later. Also, if someone is surrounded by different types of difficult situations and problems all the time does not mean that he has performed more negative actions than others. These others are those who are relatively less surrounded by situations. In these cases, it is just a matter of chance that at a particular moment of time or for a few months or years, their past actions were visible in their lives in the form of problems more than for the others. For the others, that time when they face the results of their karma could be a few years later. So using the law of karma to label someone as one who has performed more negative actions in their past births or lives is absolutely incorrect. This is because remember negative or impure actions were performed by everyone, some more and some less. Each and every human being on the planet is facing the result of their past karma at the present moment of time when it’s time to clear all our negative actions.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼 𝗶.𝗲. 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. God is a part of our lives today for the purpose of freeing us from the results of all our negative actions. So there is no need to feel sorrowful if there are negative situations in our lives today. On the other hand, let us become full of the power of determination that with the help of God’s power of purity and a powerful connection with Him I can finish off all the accounts of my negative actions. As a result I will become pure and problem free.

Patience

Patience teaches us to sow the seed in the form of right actions and to allow the fruits of those actions to ripen in their own time.

I don't need to think about the future benefits of what I do now, because I know I will receive what I need when the time is right.

If I let go of expectations and allow things to develop in their own time, I will be able to enjoy what I am doing in the present, and the future will automatically become good.

Create Continuously

Every day is an opportunity to be creative - the canvas is your mind, the brushes and colours are your thoughts and feelings, the panorama is your story, the complete picture is a work of art called, 'my life'.

Be careful what you put on the canvas of your mind today - it matters.

We are living in a time where an uncomfortable emotion like stress is being called acceptable, natural or normal by many of us burdened by our various roles. A student creates stress about exams and results, a professional worries about managing family and professional targets, and a retired person is anxious about health and finances. Stress is a result of our creation of wrong thoughts. Suppose I am employee who knows that it takes two years to be promoted as a manager, I sincerely work for it. But my own conditioned thoughts often get triggered - I definitely need this promotion as a manager but will it happen... what if it does not? So I remain uneasy and anxious not just today but for two more years. If one day I sense that my promotion may not happen for any reason, I may even resort to an unfair means to get it. This way I add more layers of anxiety, negativity and guilt to my current stress levels. In this state if I get a promotion, can I play the role of a Manager well? I cannot because by now I have forgotten my nature of peace and happiness. I feel stressed about handling higher responsibilities. My efficiency reduces and I become weaker. I cannot do justice to a role that I had been chasing for so long.

Our first responsibility in any role is to take charge of the state of our mind by increasing inner strength. It gives us the power to remain stable in success or failure. In the above example stress is a result of my anxiety, fear and guilt for compromising on ethics. I had identified myself with the role of becoming a manger. I believed it was vital for my happiness and success. But is Manager who I really am? A significant cause of stress is our illusion, I am the role. When we consider ourselves as the body instead of our inner selfs, we identify the self with our roles, achievements and possessions, which are our outer identities. We are actors in this world drama. We play many roles in our life. Let us not identify with our roles and forget the beautiful qualities of the inner self. The right consciousness is, I am a beautiful and virtuous being playing different roles. Role is temporary, the inner being is eternal. This understanding reduces our stress while playing the role and allows us to focus on values of the inner self – peace, love and joy, in every role.

Our inner orchestra

Our inner orchestra is made up of different musical instruments. These instruments are our memories, desires, tendencies, mind, beliefs, emotions, feelings, fears, intuition, judgements, creativity, our imagination…

Who is the director of this orchestra? You. Who are you? You – the consciousness, you – the soul, you – the being. When you direct your inner orchestra well, you can remain unaffected by external influences. If you, the director of the orchestra, close your eyes for a few moments and cover up your ears, what happens to the orchestra? The music is not very harmonious or sweet; it is noisy and you suffer.

To make the orchestra play according to the inner voice of your being, according to your purest intentions and values, you simply have to be awake, alert and attentive, and listen with your heart, not with your physical heart but with the heart of your being.

Appreciation

Even if I don't mean to be critical, I often unconsciously focus on others' weaknesses and mistakes. The more I develop the habit of noticing goodness and only holding on to the good in others and in situations, the more my own sense of well-being will rise.

When I continually think: 'He/She is wrong', I create a barrier that prevents me from reaching my own goodness.

Quality Of Thoughts

An enlightened person understands that there is nothing to be gained by thinking about others. Pure thoughts and feelings will do all the work. There is no need to think any further.

The quality of your thoughts will affect your spiritual endeavour. So keep checking them. If you don't, then at some point your mode of thinking will become quite ordinary, no longer spiritual. The sign of this is that your mind begins to; race and you start reacting sensitively to little things. You become vulnerable not just to the opinions of others but even to your own limited way of understanding.

Thoughts can be your best friend or your worst enemy.

Life being fluid, there’s a need for us to shuffle responsibilities and distribute attention between all the aspects of life that support us. But do you find yourself heavily tilted towards one area alone? Maybe drowning in work due to stiff targets, neglecting self and family? Or an issue at home leaving you restless and under-performing at work? Achieving work-life balance is a matter of prioritizing and sticking to it, no matter what. Focusing on the task on hand and strictly unplugging from everything else leaves us with so much more time and energy than we need. Let’s prioritize self first, family next and work thereafter. Allocating time to nourish the mind and exercising body helps us experience happy vibrations with family. We can then step into our workplace with enthusiasm. And when we are happy at work, going back home happy becomes easy. In short, let’s do what is needed and switch off. No office calls when with family, no distractions when eating, no compromise on sleep timings. This discipline brings a healthy balance in life. Remind yourself, 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴.

The art of balancing different aspects of life needs a little practice and persistence. It also needs a fierce determination to never totally give up on one of them when the other seems a priority. We say - 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘴, 𝘴𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬. This means for 3 months – for 90 days – we carry an energy of hurry, anxiety and turbulence. We may not also focus enough on health, family time or social life. And then after 3 months, chances are that projects in the subsequent quarter are also equally challenging, if not more. So, this creates an imbalance, with time and energy heavily tilted towards career. It’s critical to prioritize, but let’s make sure every aspect of life gets equal attention.

Moving Forward

The ability to realise one’s own mistake happens in the heart.  However, to dwell on my mistakes stops me moving forward. Do not place mistakes on your head, the weight may crush you. Instead put it under your feet, use it as a platform to view your horizon.

We are all living a life from morning till night, where we face situations where anger is a common and most easiest response we choose. Once a doctor was meeting a patient in his clinic and asked her that how many times do you become angry in a day? She replied that I have never counted but I think not a single day passes when I do not get angry and loose my temper at my husband and my children and the maid and even the shopkeeper. The doctor replied that have you ever wondered what goes on inside you after every bout of anger? Every second of anger or anger related emotions causes the secretion of negative chemicals and negative hormones inside the body. This is constantly harming the body and causes severe psychosomatic illnesses or illnesses caused by a negative mind, like blood pressure, diabetes, depression, insomnia and even cancer in the body. Also, the positive mood of peace, love and happiness inside our minds, can remain low for many hours, after even a smallest bout of hatred, revenge, aggression and any other toxic and negative behavior. 𝗪𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝟱 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲:

𝟏. 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐨 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 – Very often we try and change scenes in our life, which are beyond our control. Scenes of life including different situations and behaviors of people, which are not as per our desire, make us react negatively and with emotions full of anger. When we cannot change a scene, we feel frustrated and feel things are out of our control. At that point of time, remind yourself that everything cannot go our way and as per our desires in life always. Also, the more we bring about positive change in ourselves, the more the energy of our change will change scenes around us in a positive way. So, instead of wanting that a particular person have a particular quality or a particular situation be more positive, fill yourself with that quality or that positivity and radiate it to your surroundings. This way you will accept and not expect, because expectations are the seed of all anger filled emotions.

Good Feelings

Good feelings for others are like ointments that heal wounds and re-establish friendships and relationships.

Good feelings are generated in the mind, are transmitted through your attitude and are reflected in your eyes and smile.

Smiling opens the heart and a glance can make miracles happen.

Staying Peaceful

Desires cause peace to disappear. You think that acquiring things will make you feel secure, but the reality is that the more you have the more fear there usually is of losing it, and the further you are from peace.

Desires are the cause of all conflicts. When you want something and cannot get it you become frustrated.

Learning to be free from desires is learning how to stay peaceful.

𝟮. 𝗜 𝗔𝗺 𝗔 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗢𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 – 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 – We are all a beautiful source of peace and love, which we can experience all the time and share with others. Also, where there is peace and love, the power to tolerate different types of people and situations is there inside us, which makes it easy for us to remain calm and patient, instead of reacting violently. Hating someone and speaking against someone behind their backs or in front of them is all a reflection of lack of the sweet peace and love which we are full of eternally, but we forget that. Start your day with the following affirmation: 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘢 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦. 𝘐 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮, 𝘢 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥. 𝘐 𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥. Repeat this affirmation to yourself many times in a day and slowly the personality of creating angry and violent responses will be changed to sweeter and more humble responses to people and situations.

𝟯. 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 – Have you ever spent a complete day thinking about another person’s negative actions and giving them different forms in your mind, all of which are not only negative but hurt you internally. Such hurt carried in your heart can become a source of anger at every step and make your mind violent. This type of carried anger can spill out in different situations involving you and other people and not necessarily the person who is the cause of the anger. To forgive and forget requires emotional strength. To respond with love and not react with anger is forgiveness in action. To forgive is to love unconditionally. To forget is to bring benefit to the self, because violence in the mind harms the mind, body and relationships immensely. Only when you forgive, can you forget. To forgive, remember everyone’s original personality is one of sweetness, peace and love and a negative comment or an action of bitterness by someone is a result of an acquired negative sanskara, which is temporary and which the other person is trying to remove.

𝟰. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗚𝗼 𝗢𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜 𝗔𝗺 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 – One of the most significant causes of anger filled relationships is the ego that I am right and the other person is wrong. The more the ego, the more the anger. Very often people who are very moody in the family or at the workplace and are always shouting at other people and seeing them as incorrect are the ones who are very egoistic. Also, a very common and negative shade of anger is sarcasm - to comment sarcastically on people’s actions and to always think that what I think and do is the best and only right. On the other hand, the one who sacrifices his or her ego will be very sweet and merciful in interactions, even if the other person has genuinely committed some mistakes. To see others as innocent and not to be over-critical, a very simple practice is to see atleast one specialty in each and every person we meet everyday. This type of positive vision makes us free from anger and even in the most negative of situations we see people positively and not focus on their faults and weaknesses.

𝟱. 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗧𝗼 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 – Life is full of many different types of negative situations and twists and turns, which keep us unsettled and stressed at times. Stress is primarily caused by too many whys, whats, whens and hows, which are questions in our minds. The more the mind is full of questions and unsolved problems, the more the mind will react in the form of toxic words and actions. Problems will always exist but our attachment to them and impatience in waiting for them to get solved at the right time and in the right manner leads to anger. Anger in many cases is just a form of bottled up stress, which bursts open from time to time. Meditation and positive thinking as a result of the practice of meditation are some common techniques to resolve stress of the mind. Freedom from anger follows freedom from stress.
