Money quote: "Obama’s parents didn’t go to college, nor did many others in the community in which she grew up—but through “a lot of hard work and plenty of financial aid,” she scored a spot at Princeton University as an undergrad and later studied at Harvard Law School. Both experiences, she wrote, offered unprecedented career opportunities, which she now wants to extend to girls all over."

Money quote:
"Writing in the New York Times in 2014, Nick Bilton recalled a conversation he had with the late Apple chief executive (whose birthday is 24 February) after the launch of the first iPad.
Asking whether his children liked the new device, Jobs replied: "They haven't used it. We limit how much technology our kids use at home.""

Money quote: "The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2016 is awarded to Bob Dylan “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”."

Notevole! Vale la pena condividerlo, dura circa 15 minuti.
Money quote: "How do creative people come up with great ideas? Organizational psychologist Adam Grant studies "originals": thinkers who dream up new ideas and take action to put them into the world. In this talk, learn three unexpected habits of originals — including embracing failure. "The greatest originals are the ones who fail the most, because they're the ones who try the most," Grant says. "You need a lot of bad ideas in order to get a few good ones.""

What I loved about it was its optimism, the fundamental belief at its core that the people on this planet, for all our varied backgrounds and outward differences, could come together to build a better tomorrow.
I still believe that. I believe we can work together to do big things that raise the fortunes of people here at home and all over the world. And even if we’ve got some work left to do on faster-than-light travel, I still believe science and technology is the warp drive that accelerates that kind of change for everybody."

New York Times responds to Trump.
Money quote: "As Neil Postman showed in “Amusing Ourselves to Death” television has vastly downgraded the level of public discourse in most democracies. From US to Iran, from Venezuela to France, from Egypt to Russia, from Italy to Turkey, there is as much competition over viewers’ gaze as it is over their ballots. In many countries, gaze is automatically translated into votes"

Qualche mito relativo all'alimentazione, spiegato bene.
Money quote:
"Sorry, there’s nothing special about eating breakfast. It’s not “the most important meal of the day.” At least, not for everyone. For years, people (especially cereal marketing companies) touted the benefits of breakfast because it supposedly kept you from overeating, jump-started your metabolism, or <insert any other reason to manage weight and obesity>.
But here’s the wrinkle: a majority of breakfast studies are biased. A study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that most research on skipping breakfast and weight gain was conducted with the explicit intent to force that correlation. Similarly, the argument that school-age children who skip breakfast are more likely to be overweight seems compelling, but the focus is more on the school’s breakfast program and whether a child eats enough at home, rather than breakfast itself being some game-changer."

As much as 50 percent of the coral in the warmer, northern part of the reef died. “The whole northern section is trashed,” Veron told Australia’s Saturday Paper. “It looks like a war zone. It’s heartbreaking.” With no force on earth capable of preventing the oceans from continuing to warm and acidify for centuries to come, Veron had no illusions about the future. “I used to have the best job in the world.
