Hi, guys 👋

We are meeting at 20:40 at general building of MIPT. The auditory will be announced at the chat https://t.iss.one/joinchat/5O_8Sw9mwN9mZGQy

Ps: this meme just for fun 😝
Today we hold the second offline meeting. There are a lot of newcomers among us — we appreciate that!

A short summary of our meeting.
We have been practising speaking skills by dividing into pairs to play the game 'Hat'.

At first, each player was given two cards with a word to explain in 3 min and a teammate was to guess its meaning. This game develops the skill of describing a random object in English. We observed that it's better for us to provide more difficult words. Moreover, we came up to the conclusion that more internship-oriented topics are required.

Then we started to practice IELTS speaking exercise in which a person needs to explain a vision on the given topic. It is both useful for people aiming international programs and those who desire to better pure speaking.

We conclude that we miss native speakers a lot because practice with such guys would bring a real bias into our knowledge! Hope to deal about meeting with them as soon as possible.

Let's make our English brill together!
#words #practice

Practice and practise are 2 spellings of the same word. The only difference in meaning is in their usage in American and British communities.🥱

British: practiSe is a verb and practiCe is a noun.
American: both the noun and verb forms are spelled: practiCe.

Usage (British):
1️⃣ As an uncountable noun (Practice involves doing something regularly in order to improve your ability at it.)
Your skiing will get better with practice.

2️⃣ As a countable noun (A practice is something that is done regularly, for example as a custom.)
The ancient practice of yoga is still popular today.

3️⃣ As a verb (If you practise something, you do it or take part in it regularly.)
I had been practising the piece for months.

Good afternoon, guys!

We have homework for the next meeting for you ;) According to the quiz we are interested in some internships-related stuff and new words. So here is a task.

2️⃣ Find 3 interesting facts about it. It could be about corporate culture / their latest products / size of the market — anything.

3️⃣ Find 3 new words or phrases for you. Explain their meanings in English and in Russian as well.

4️⃣ Prepare all this for the next appointment.

Discussing themes in pairs — engaging!

1️⃣ you meet with new people.
2️⃣ you break the language barrier because you talk about random topics.
3️⃣ you develop your expertise in speaking English.

Today we started the discussion with a warm-up exercise of describing a company we'd like to work at. Then we moved on to prepared sets of topics to discuss in pairs.

🥳Two guys joined us during the process and they fastly adapted to the atmosphere. It's really worth trying to join us the next time because we are very friendly and your interests-oriented.

Here are several ideas for improving our meetings:
1️⃣ Prepare more diverse topics: politics, nature, finance, etc.
2️⃣ Watch videos together for discussion after it.

Galya highlighted a very important note: we are not purely for preparing for internships😅

we just want

to make our English brill together!
