The Symbolic Era
🗿 An “America Last” House Resolution has been introduced to display a bust of the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in the House of Representatives.
🇺🇸 House Republicans this week introduced legislation that would prohibit flags other than the American flag from being flown over U.S. diplomatic and consular posts. So no more rainbow or BLM flags.
The Symbolic Era: No action is taken that will improve anything, all longstanding structural, moral, and social problems are ignored, and symbols alone are pursued and promoted.
Brett Stevens, of Amerika.org, writes:
"Our fellow citizens live the false reality of social life, manipulation, and symbol. They enforce it on each other out of fear. They promote it out of a hope based in denial. This forms the core of the Regime, and as the mechanisms of society fail, so fades the Regime, giving us a chance to replace it."
"When we say that history runs in cycles, it means that people achieve stability, then forget how they did it, and go through a period of pursuing illusions and attempting to repeat past methods without understanding them. At some point, the civilization dies and someone must start a new one somewhere else. ... To date, no civilization for which we have records has managed to pull itself out of this terminal decline."

Multiple news outlets use AI to produce and distribute news.
Financial websites have used this tech for at least a decade because their articles were very formulaic, along the lines of: "Company X reported earnings were up Y, which is more than forecast earnings of Z"
Now we have AI managing political news for Presidential elections. Biases baked in to language models and influencing the world, like we see with ChatGPT, is not a potential future threat, it has been here for years.

The Associated Press writes a propaganda piece which is then reprinted by all the other news outlets, and they blast it out to millions. Everyone gets the same narrative no matter where they go. Imagine how much you could rig things if you had even one percent…

Jimmy Fallon, who gets paid $16 Million per year.
Think about how many gifted comedians would have done his job for $1 million, or $500,000, and probably pulled in the same or better ratings, since nobody is a “Fallon Fan.”
Yet Fallon gets the contract renewals despite only 1.3 million viewers. He is obviously entirely controllable and will happily push their propaganda masquerading as comedy. None of this is funny.

Looks like Stephen King has lapsed back into GenX/Boomer liberal mode, repeating something he once said a long time ago, when it was fashionable, but which is incompatible with contemporary mores.
Except, of course, that they have their fake "banned books" - the stuff which is given prominence in mainstream book stores because some crusty conservative once complained about it many decades ago. Buying such books fulfils the need to feel edgy.
Meantime, actual banned books will be reviled, precisely by the likes of Stephen King.
