Shane Lee Brown, 25, filed a lawsuit against Las Vegas police and the Henderson Police Department for more than $500,000 in a federal civil rights case.
When Brown was pulled over by Henderson police officers while driving on Jan. 8, 2020, he did not have his license on him, but he gave police his full name, Social Security number and Social Security card, according to the complaint filed in Nevada District Court on Jan. 7 of this year.
But police still apparently mistook him for Shane Neal Brown, who at the time was a 49-year-old white felon.
"During his unlawful arrest, Shane Lee Brown repeatedly explained to numerous Henderson police officers and supervisors that he was not the 49-year-old white 'Shane Brown' for whom the arrest warrant was issued," Shane Lee Brown's attorney wrote.
