In a recent interview with THR, showrunner Alom Jean called the prediction of the Russia-Ukraine conflict "very sad and not accidental:
"In terms of predictions, we have two kinds: the trivial ones, like Don Mattingly getting in trouble for his hair in 'Homer at the Bat.' And then there are the predictions of this type. I hate to say it, but I was born in 1961, so 30 years of my life have been lived with the specter of the Soviet Union. So for me, unfortunately, this is more of a norm than a prediction. We just decided that things were going to go badly."
