• Будёновка
[bu-dyo-naf-ka]
🔻The famous Budenovka, which became one of the main symbols of the Red Army of the pre-war period, was developed back in Tsarist Russia.
🔻The famous Russian artist V.M. Vasnetsov created sketches of the uniform.
🔻The headdress, overcoat and other elements were supposed to carry references to the pre-Mongol helmets of Russian knights and caftans of the period of the Muscovite kingdom. The uniform was stored in warehouses and was not supplied to the troops during the First World War, as it had to be presented after the victory over the enemy.
🔻After the revolution, the Bolsheviks decided to use it to form an association among the population of the Red Army soldiers with the epic heroes.
🔻For many decades, Budenovka became an invariable attribute of the Red Army soldiers.

• Рубль vs Рус
[rubl' - rus]
🔻The main monetary unit of Russia could be called not 'рубль' (ruble), but 'рус' (rus).
🔻The new name was planned to be introduced during the monetary reform of S.Witte. In 1895, the St. Petersburg Mint minted five sets of gold coins in denominations of 5, 10 and 15 russ. However, they decided to abandon the renaming.
🔻Now nine coins are in museum exhibitions, and another six are in private collections. For example, an Imperial (15 Rus) was sold in August 2014 at Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio auction for $200,000.
