🇺🇸🇷🇺🇺🇦 According to Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump told Ukraine’s Zelensky and European leaders following the visit of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Russia that Moscow was ready to withdraw from the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in exchange for gaining full control of the Donetsk region.

However, a day later, Witkoff retracted this statement during a meeting with senior European officials, and on Friday, in another clarification call, Witkoff stated that Russia merely agreed to a ceasefire in exchange for Ukraine’s withdrawal from the Donetsk region.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) released a statement claiming that Ukraine is allegedly preparing a “staged provocation” to derail the Russia–US talks set for August 15.

According to MoD, on Aug 11, a group of foreign journalists was reportedly brought by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) to Chuhuiv, Kharkiv region, under the cover of filming stories about life near the front. The plan, according to MoD, is for Ukraine’s forces to carry out a strike — using drones and missiles — on a densely populated neighborhood or a hospital just before the summit.

Heavy civilian casualties would be expected, MoD says, and the foreign journalists would “capture” it immediately. Then, blame would be placed on Russia’s military, “shaping a negative media narrative and obstructing negotiations.”
