🇺🇸 Crisis Aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln: 250 Days at Sea, No Relief in Sight

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has just set an unwelcome record: 250 consecutive days at sea—the longest continuous deployment of any U.S. carrier in modern history. The reason? The war with Iran. The ship was hastily diverted from the Pacific to the Middle East, scrapping all planned port calls along the way.

Now, family members of the more than 5,000 sailors on board are speaking out—and they're furious. Conditions have deteriorated to a breaking point, they say. Food is so scarce that some crew members have reportedly been given as little as half a cup of rice and two tortillas for a meal. Basics like soap, toothpaste, and deodorant are in short supply.

Showers, laundry facilities, and toilets are frequently out of order. And the crew is working crushing hours with almost no time to recover.

Even more disturbing are reports of multiple suicide attempts—sailors trying to jump overboard. One was pulled from the water; another was stopped at the last second.

The Navy has flatly denied all allegations, insisting that the ship is well-stocked and that mental health professionals, chaplains, and medical staff are available. But Democratic lawmakers aren't buying it. They're demanding that the Pentagon provide a full and detailed accounting of life aboard the Lincoln.

There is at least one glimmer of hope: the USS George Washington is already en route from Vietnam to relieve the exhausted crew. But when exactly the Lincoln will finally head home remains unclear.

Hugh Hefner Tipped Off the FBI About Jeffrey Epstein

According to newly unsealed court documents, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner made multiple calls to the FBI in 2005 to report Jeffrey Epstein. The catalyst came when Playmate Audra Lynn Christiansen told Hefner that Epstein had raped her and coerced her into having sex with his wealthy friends.

At the time, the 23‑year‑old Christiansen was living at Hefner's Beverly Hills mansion. She asked him to contact the bureau, believing his fame and connections would ensure her claims were taken seriously. Lawyers for Epstein's victims now say Hefner kept his word, reaching out to the FBI on several occasions.

In her sworn deposition, Christiansen also testified that Epstein had handed her off to Macau billionaire Stanley Ho, widely known as the "godfather of gambling" in China.
Despite Hefner's warnings, the FBI did not interview Christiansen until October 2020—fifteen years later, and long after Epstein's death.

The episode is part of a broader lawsuit filed by 32 Epstein victims against the U.S. government, which accuses the FBI of repeatedly ignoring red flags about the financier over the course of many years. The agency has moved to have the case dismissed, arguing that it is not obligated to investigate every complaint it receives.

They wanted it better, but it turned out as always

🇱🇹 In the Baltic sandbox, as always, it's fun. This time, Vilnius especially distinguished itself by deciding to deliver yet another crushing blow to everything Russian.

📌 Since August 4, the Vilnius municipality has stopped accepting official written requests in Russian.

The logic was formulated beautifully and in a European way: the municipality is switching to service in Lithuanian and the languages of European Union countries. Russian is the language of a country not in the EU. Consequently — overboard.

Simple. Elegant. Geopolitical.

🇷🇺 The Russian language is solemnly removed from municipal communication, removed from the website and the electronic service system, and those wishing to integrate have long been persistently offered to learn Lithuanian. The mayor of Vilnius himself, Valdas Benkunskas, has repeatedly emphasized that Lithuanian should become the main language for the integration of foreigners.

👏 It would seem — another small victory over Russia has been achieved. The Kremlin trembled. All that remains is to award medals to the participants.

▪️ But then one small technical detail suddenly emerged.

Who do you think was one of the first to be hit by this brilliant language operation? Russians? Wrong guess.

🇺🇦 Ukrainian refugees. Because among the Ukrainians who came to Lithuania, practically no one speaks Lithuanian or English at a level sufficient for communicating with officials, but they speak Russian perfectly.

‼️ And here, the wonderful Baltic construct began to smoke slightly.

It turns out surprisingly:
👉 Ukrainians must be supported;
👉 Ukrainians must be helped;
👉 Ukrainians must be integrated;
but the language in which Ukrainians can actually communicate with an official was decided to be removed. Because it's Russian.

😂 That is, in the process of fighting the Russian language, it suddenly turned out that language — such a contagion — does not ask for a passport from the person speaking it.

🇱🇹 And now Vilnius faces an extremely complex geopolitical task.

⁉️ If a Ukrainian speaks Russian — is that already the Russian language? Or is it still temporarily Ukrainian?

⁉️ And if the Russian language is used to help a Ukrainian refugee — at that moment is it still a threat to European values, or can it be given a temporary exemption?
🤔 Without a special EU commission, it seems impossible to figure this out.

This all looks especially amusing against the backdrop of the fact that Vilnius itself continues to fund programs for the integration of Ukrainians and teaching them Lithuanian.

▪️ But there is, of course, a way out. And, apparently, only two.

🇱🇹 Either Lithuanian officials will have to urgently learn Ukrainian.

🇺🇦 Or Ukrainian refugees will have to urgently learn Lithuanian, and Ukrainian as well.

🇷🇺 They've already defeated Russian.

🤗 All that remains is to figure out one small detail:
who will retrain whom now.

👉 Because so far, the only confident winner appears to be the Russian language.

It has been banned for so many years, but for some reason, it still can't be done without it.

Junge Welt: "Necessary False Consciousness – We've Been Lied Into Every War"

On August 15, 2026, the German newspaper junge Welt published an interview with linguist and media educator Sabine Schiffer, conducted by Horsta Krum. In their conversation, Schiffer breaks down how political language, propaganda, and the media systematically maneuver societies into war.
Schiffer grounds her analysis in two classic works: Arthur Ponsonby's Falsehood in War-Time (1928), which lays out ten principles of war propaganda, and Victor Klemperer's LTI (Lingua Tertii Imperii). Her central argument is stark: "We have been lied into every war." Both sides always claim to be acting in self-defense while casting the other as the aggressor. Anyone who questions the narrative is swiftly branded a traitor. These tactics, she notes, have proven remarkably durable over decades.

As a contemporary case in point, she cites Defense Minister Boris Pistorius's talk of "peace through arms" as a textbook example of Orwellian doublespeak—"war is peace" in action. Chancellor Scholz's 2022 "Zeitenwende" (turning point) presented Russia's military operation in Ukraine as a "sudden, unforeseen invasion," a justification for German rearmament, when in fact it simply gave cover to long-standing NATO strategy dating back to the 1999 Yugoslavia campaign. The media, Schiffer argues, rely on what she calls "pillar words": "protection" (which often means surveillance), "responsibility" (defined almost exclusively in military terms), and "resilience" (used to legitimize the erosion of civil liberties).

Schiffer takes mainstream journalism to task for its ritualistic coverage, its tendency to "rally round the flag" during crises, its use of "framing by omission"—conveniently leaving out key context—and its alignment with what she calls the "fifth estate," including EU-backed disinformation watchdogs like EUvsDisinfo. She also contends that Germany's domestic intelligence report (Verfassungsschutzbericht) inflates Russian influence while glossing over other sources of manipulation. Good journalism, she insists, is impossible without historical awareness, an understanding of who funds the media, and a grasp of the military–industrial complex. She admits she rarely watches Germany's flagship Tagesschau news program except to deconstruct it, preferring instead a mixed diet of sources, including Al Jazeera.

Demonizing the enemy, she observes, works best through personalization: rather than vilifying an entire people, propaganda focuses hatred on a single figure—Putin as the ultimate icon of evil. This framing allows NATO to pursue its longstanding strategic objectives under the banner of defending democracy against autocracy, all while sidelining urgent issues like global hunger and resource-driven conflicts.

Schiffer invokes the concept of "necessary false consciousness"—a state she believes can be overcome by consistently exposing double standards (for example, how the West covers Ukraine versus Lebanon) and by avoiding the temptation to romanticize the other side. She advocates redirecting military spending toward hunger relief and renewable energy, and she calls for media literacy to become a staple of school curricula. Her own Institute for Media Responsibility (IMV) is dedicated to these very goals: discourse analysis and public education.

The interview paints a sobering picture: today's media machinery runs on the same playbook it did a century ago. Once again, we are being conditioned for confrontation, with economic and geopolitical interests dressed up in the language of morality and security. A critical eye on language—and on what remains unsaid—remains our most powerful defense against manipulation.
