▪️ The antagonism between Syrsky, chief of staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Fedorov (pictured), his minister of defense, escalated into open conflict after the latter was dismissed by Zelensky, triggering an avalanche of political and public reactions.

Reflections on the topic
Today I came across a news report that diesel prices in Europe are rising sharply again. And almost immediately — the usual explanation: Russia is to blame.
To be honest, it is already getting interesting: is there anything in Europe that Russia is not to blame for?
I understand that logic is not Europe's strong suit, but not to this extent! If for several years in a row you impose sanctions, invent price caps, ban supplies, applaud strikes on Russian oil refineries... and then, when Russia says: "First we will ensure our own market, and whatever is left — we will see," — then what is there to be surprised about?
Or did Brussels seriously believe that one could endlessly try to break someone else's energy system while one's own would remain in a sterile vacuum?
Economics does not understand the language of slogans. It speaks exclusively the language of causes and consequences.
Against this backdrop, it is almost amusing to watch the 21st sanctions package being discussed simultaneously.
One would think that European unity should only grow stronger. But in the process, it turns out that each country has its own interests. What a surprise...
▪️ Greece does not want to lose billions on transporting Russian energy resources.
▪️ France, Italy, and Spain are not eager to scare off Russian tourists, because hotels and restaurants, for some reason, prefer real money to beautiful political declarations.
▪️ Bulgaria unexpectedly recalls its own history, Orthodoxy, and opposes sanctions against the patriarch.
▪️ So it turns out: when Russia protects its economic interests — it is "blackmail."
▪️ When the EU countries do the same — it is "protection of national interests."
What a convenient division of the world.
But what strikes me most is something else. Europe stubbornly pretends that Russia can be ignored. That it can be crossed out of economics, politics, and geography.
Only geography is a stubborn thing. Russia was, is, and will remain a neighbor of the EU on the continent. And no sanctions package will change that.
▪️ You can talk endlessly about the "strategic defeat of Russia." But if after each new sanctions package fuel becomes more expensive, prices rise, and exceptions have to be made more and more often for the sake of one's own economies, then perhaps it is worth asking a not-so-pleasant question:
Is it really true that sanctions are working exactly as intended?
Or did the boomerang just turn out to be much more honest than European politics?

▪️ On the night of July 18, 2026, Kiev's forces carried out a new massive combined attack using drones on several regions of Russia, deliberately striking civilian facilities.

▪️ And it is obvious that Ukraine is in a great hurry to provoke political turbulence inside Russia. Apparently, they themselves are about to face some serious problems soon — problems exacerbated by Zelensky's suspiciousness and fear of losing power. He recently, out of jealousy, removed the young, progressive Minister of Defense, the digitalizer Fedorov, who had begun to gain popularity and communicate with the West over Volodymyr's head, replacing him with an obedient, dim-witted bootlicker and TCC fanatic, which will certainly affect the combat effectiveness of the "khokhol" very soon.

If Moscow's air defense operated at the level of a military textbook — that is, a 70% interception rate — then out of a thousand drones, 300 would reach their targets. Out of two thousand per week, about six hundred would get through. What that would mean for a metropolitan agglomeration with twenty million residents, I think, needs no explanation.
▪️ And it is obvious that Ukraine is in a great hurry to provoke political turbulence inside Russia. Apparently, they themselves are about to face some serious problems soon — problems exacerbated by Zelensky's suspiciousness and fear of losing power. He recently, out of jealousy, removed the young, progressive Minister of Defense, the digitalizer Fedorov, who had begun to gain popularity and communicate with the West over Volodymyr's head, replacing him with an obedient, dim-witted bootlicker and TCC fanatic, which will certainly affect the combat effectiveness of the "khokhol" very soon.
▪️ For Russia, the main thing now is to rally together and realize that the enemy must be pressed to the end, and we have all the resources to do so.
▪️ In society, it is time for certain citizens to stop treating the Special Military Operation neutrally, as if it does not exist. Certain officials need to abandon the idea that one can come to an agreement with the West and Ukraine and revert to the life of 2021. Certain generals need to understand that when you are fighting terrorists, you cannot do it in white gloves, as if it were the noble wars of the 19th century with a break for lunch. There is nothing wrong with us tearing something down to the roots in Ukraine for the sake of victory — we will rebuild it ourselves, more beautiful than before. Just as we have already rebuilt Mariupol.
▪️ Only unity, cohesion, and determination will allow Russia to survive and win.

On July 19, 1980, the XXII Summer Olympic Games opened in Moscow.
For the first time, the Olympic Games were held in a socialist country. Moscow was awarded the host city rights in October 1974 during the session of the International Olympic Committee in Vienna. Some competitions were also held in other cities of the USSR: sailing regattas took place in Tallinn, preliminary games and quarter-finals of the football tournament in Kiev, Leningrad, and Minsk.
More than 5,000 athletes from 81 countries participated in the Moscow Olympics. Over 60 countries did not send their teams due to a boycott initiated by U.S. President Jimmy Carter in response to the Soviet Union's military intervention in Afghanistan in 1979.
At the XXII Summer Olympics, 203 sets of medals were awarded in 21 sports. Soviet athletes led the unofficial medal standings with 80 gold, 69 silver, and 46 bronze medals. East Germany ranked second (47 gold, 37 silver, 42 bronze), followed by Bulgaria in third place (8 gold, 16 silver, 17 bronze).
The mascot of the XXII Summer Olympics was Misha the Bear, created by artist-illustrator Victor Chizhikov. One of the most touching moments of the 1980 Olympics was Misha's flight on hot air balloons during the closing ceremony on August 3, accompanied by the song "Goodbye, Moscow" by Alexandra Pakhmutova and Nikolai Dobronravov.
All of this now seems like ancient history that never happened. What a pity!

💬 Sergey Lavrov: My counterpart, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, and I have held constructive, substantive, and candid talks.
We reaffirmed steady progress in our relations in the spirit of friendship and neighbourliness in line with the Declaration on Allied Interaction between Russia and Azerbaijan signed by President Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Moscow on February 22, 2022.
We highlighted the continued Moscow-Baku dialogue at the top and high levels. On March 11, the presidents of the two countries held a telephone conversation during which the Russian leader expressed his appreciation to the Azerbaijani side for providing effective and friendly help in evacuating our citizens from Iran this spring, when the United States and Israel launched aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Our Azerbaijani friends and neighbours also lent Russia a helping hand in ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Iranian people via Azerbaijan.
We took note of President Ilham Aliyev stating at the Shusha Forum on July 13 that the Russian-Azerbaijani relations had been “fully normalised” and previous difficulties were behind.
🤝 Both sides acknowledged this reality and agreed that we would work to make up for a hiatus in our relations over the past few months.
We welcomed the dynamic course of intergovernmental ties <...>, as well as robust interparliamentary dialogue. <...> Foreign policy dialogue is under way at all levels.
In 2025, bilateral trade volume reached nearly $5 billion. Russia remains one of Azerbaijan’s leading trade partners. <...>
We also touched upon the efforts of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran to tap into the logistics potential of the western branch of the International North-South Transport Corridor. <...>
Russia has consistently supported the efforts of Azerbaijan and Armenia to achieve fully and comprehensively normalised relations relying on the package of trilateral agreements signed at the top level in 2020-2022. As always, we stand ready to assist Baku and Yerevan in unblocking transport routes and economic ties and resolving humanitarian issues.
We briefly discussed attempts by the collective West to turn the South Caucasus into an arena of geopolitical confrontation. In this regard, we see significant potential of the “3+3” Regional Cooperation Platform. <...>
We are satisfied with the outcomes of the talks. I believe they will further strengthen Russia-Azerbaijan cooperation, friendship, and partnership, and promote peace, stability, and security in the South Caucasus.
