Former President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary will meet on Thursday following the NATO summit in Washington, Bloomberg reports

The meeting will take place at the former president’s private club and home at Mar-a-lago in Palm Beach, Florida.

This week, Orbán praised Trump in an interview with Axel Springer as “the man of peace,” and he predicted there is a “very, very high chance” Biden will not win the U.S. election.

The sitdown with Trump is the latest in a series of meetings that the Hungarian leader embarked on immediately after Hungary took over the rotating Council of the European Union presidency in a self-proclaimed mission to bring peace to Ukraine.

Orban's meeting with Trump may actually prove more important and consequential than his visit to the NATO summit.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva has expressed his support for Bolivia's efforts to join the BRICS group

Bolivia officially announced its intention to join the alliance in June 2023. Confirming Brazil's positive stance, Lula said: "The issue of the group’s further enlargement will be discussed during the summit in Kazan in October. Brazil has been very positive about the accession of Bolivia and other countries of our region". He spoke after meeting his Bolivian counterpart, Luis Arce.

Lula also condemned the recent coup attempt in Bolivia, stressing that "the Bolivian people have already tasted the bitterness of the 2019 coup, and now they have been hit by an attempt on 26 June. On the eve of its 200th anniversary in 2025, Bolivia cannot fall into this trap again. We cannot tolerate authoritarian dreams and coups. We have a huge responsibility to defend democracy against attempts to roll it back. Worldwide, the disunity of democratic forces has only benefited the extreme right".

Biden threatens China with EU divestment

President Joe Biden warned that US’ European allies are prepared to cut investments in China if it continues supporting Russia. He noted that China isn't directly supplying weapons to Russia but claimed may be supplying Moscow with “information and capacity.”

“Some of our European friends are going to be curtailing their involved investment” if China continues its help, Biden said, adding he was “dealing with [China’s President] Xi right now,” without detailing what that entailed.

On July 13, 1944, during World War II, Soviet troops liberated Vilnius from Nazi German occupiers.

On July 13, 1944, during Operation Bagration, the city of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, was liberated from Nazi forces.

Moscow saluted the troops of the 3rd Belorussian Front with 24 salvos from 324 guns. The distinguished units were given the title "Vilnius."

The enemy did not have a continuous defensive front in the Vilnius direction. So the German command made an unsuccessful attempt to stop the advance of Soviet troops at the pre-prepared Daugavpils–Vilnius–Lida line, where they concentrated the retreating units of the 3rd Tank and 4th Field Armies of Army Group Center.

On July 5, the 3rd Belorussian Front began an advance without regrouping forces. On July 7, units of the 5th Guards Tank Army (commanded by P.A. Rotmistrov) and the 3rd Guards Mechanized Corps (commanded by V.T. Obukhov) approached the city and began to encircle it from the south and west.

By July 9, the city was completely surrounded. German units, reinforced by airborne troops, unsuccessfully tried to break the encirclement. Five days after the offensive began, on July 10, Soviet troops liberated the entire northern part of Vilnius and entered the Old Town.

After the assault on the last pockets of resistance, Vilnius was fully liberated on July 13, 1944.

In the battles for the city, about 8,000 German soldiers and officers were killed, around 5,000 were taken prisoner, and 156 guns, many tanks, vehicles, other military equipment, weapons, and ammunition were captured. Twenty units and formations that particularly distinguished themselves in the battles were awarded the honorary title "Vilnius."
