The key to survival is the Goat.

It requires huge pendulous balls, courage bordering on stupidity, the ability to adapt as the environment changes and the creation of a close family with many offspring as splendidly stubborn as their progenitor!

Be the goat!

Freia's Garden by Hermann Hendrich 1913

"If from the Gods we remove her. Golden apples ripen within her garden; she alone grows the apples and tends them. The goodly fruit gives to her kinsfolk, who eat thereof, youth everlasting. Sick and pale, their beauty would perish, old and weak, wasting away, were not Freia among them".- Fafner, Wagner's The Rhinegold

Sagenhalle and the Legacy of Hermann Hendrich

Hermann Hendrich was a masterful German artist famous for his paintings portraying elements of Norse, German, and Greek Mythology as well as various other influences, especially Wagner's Operas which inspired his art career. In his life Hendrich designed three halls Walpurgishalle, Nibelungenhalle, and what may have been the most beautiful if pictures are to be believed Sagenhalle.

The former two are museums though a bit on the dilapidated side, while Sagenhalle was destroyed after WW2 and no longer stands. All three Halls were an attempt to reinvigorate the traditional Germanic style for meeting halls each one taking references from German mythology and culture. Sagenhalle like the other two halls featured Hendrich's artworks such as depictions of Thor, Odin, Siegfried, and Rubezahl.-TLK

The whereabouts of much of the inner works is a mystery. Though I guess we can be thankful the other two halls still stand.-TLK

Forwarded from Frith & Folk
“In mythos and fairy tales, deities and other great spirits test the hearts of humans by showing up in various forms that disguise their divinity. They show up in robes, rags, silver sashes, or with muddy feet. They show up with skin dark as old wood, or in scales made of rose petal, as a frail child, as a lime-yellow old woman, as a man who cannot speak, or as an animal who can. The great powers are testing to see if humans have yet learned to recognize the greatness of soul in all its varying forms.”

Wotan Statue by Heinrich Natter 1874

Now heavily worn and missing his arm and spear this statue of Wotan was once a beautiful monument to the god of War and Wild Fury.

"Today I gave the sculptor Natter the commission for the artistic design and execution of a colossal statue of Wotan in Kelheimer limestone, 9 feet high."
